Brake Pads (& Discs...)

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I'm going to be in need of new discs and pads all round shortly and i have no idea what to plump for. Currently, Eurocarparts have a 30% offer going which makes quite a nice dent in the cost. The discs are easy to choose. It's the pads i'm struggling with.

I am NOT the last of the late brakers, so don't need anything super special.

I'm struggling to see the difference between a set of £30 pagids and £100 tarox pads. (Sorry if that seems stupid :p )

I'm assuming that if i went to a garage and asked them to do the work for me i'd end up with generic Pagid pads and would never notice the difference.

Can someone/anyone just reassure me that £30 pads aren't utter rubbish that will turn to dust and coat my wheels in the process within 5miles?...

Ta,

I got my Bosch pads from Euro car parts. When coupled with the Brembo discs they are superb!

why would you buy pagid for £30 when you could have genuine ones for the same money?

Do you have an idea of prices for dealer/OEM parts?

Got a £50 voucher here, wondering if I should put it towards some discs and pads or whether it'd work out much cheaper to take advantage of EuroCarParts 30% discount offer and keep the vouchers for something else.

I don't know if Euro do them but I put mintek pads on recently and they are excellent - would get these from now on without a second thought.

They seem to be a step up from stock but didn't need a new mortgage to buy.

Got them with Bosch discs and they work a treat - good in the wet as well as I found out during a brown trouser moment on the M8 yesterday.... :S

Looks pretty good, espec given that ECP don't seem to offer Brembo discs on their site.

Can't see any Bosch pads on ECP either, any recommendations from the AP site from these: http://www.apbrakediscs.co.uk/brembo-disc-brake-pads.html?engine=29356&make=8800&model=16293

Can't see any for the TFSI, only the FSI, and prices seem to vary significantly on what appears to be the same product!

(There's also crazy listings for filtering by car manufacture date too! have a look under the Vehicle Year drop down)

The reason i was looking at ECP was because there is a good offer on at the moment. I'm totally open to suggestions.

@Octavia5 - that site looks bang on :) Thanks!

@bond007 it worked out at bout £155 for the full discs and pads set - however, i'm not convinced about the pads - the brembos look much more convincing.

Looks like ECP isn't a good route after all...

Thanks for the pointers.

i would stick with OEM personally unless your giving it beans round country roads like me and have a twitchy ring when you get brake fade lol.

www.vwspares.co.uk have all OEM brake gear.
