Felicia Misfire Problem

Featured Replies

Ive recently been experiencing a problem with my 1997 Felicia 1.3 MPI. The engine sometimes misfires at light throttle openings and sometimes loses power and cuts out alogether. It usually restarts if left for 30 seconds or so.

My fault code reader shows 00537 Oxygen Sensor Control. Does this mean the Lambda Sensor is faulty or is it likely to be another sensor or something else entirely? The reason I don't trust it is that when I had a hot starting problem a few years ago the dealer told me the diagnostic gear was showing a Lambda Sensor fault but that they thought the fault lay elsewhere. They replaced the sensor they suspected and the fault was cured.

So far all I've tried is cleaning the contacts on the MAP sensor, Crank Angle Sensor and Coil Pack.

Any suggestions gratefully received but I want to avoid throwing loads of new parts at it and hoping something works.

Cheers

Ian

hi there take the spark plugs out and give them a clean and clean the throtel body the lambor sensor does the input to balance the fuel mixture, leaning the mixture when the sensor reads rich and enriching the mixture when the sensor reads lean hope this helps ya because mine runs like a dog when its cold

Hi,

i've just had the same problem this morning, started car and was running very erratic, (chugging), made it about 10 yards uphill then cut out completely, couldn't get it started. so i rolled it back home and started it again after about 20 mins and runs fine again, might it be the spark plugs?

also it was a cold wet night last night and i don't normally use the car b4 9am but this morning i started her up at 8:30 am.. :(

My old Maruti 800 did this... was the coil not liking the damp. spray some of that silicone spray over all electrics to keep out the damp and see if that helps :)

A quick update. The exhaust was smelling quite strongly of fuel and on checking the plugs they were very sooty.

So it seems that the engine is overfuelling but is the cause likely to be Lambda Sensor, Temperature Sensor or possibly MAP sensor?

Just out of curiosity what was the issue in the end? Only asking as mine cuts out after 10-15 minutes, I've changed the map and temperature sensor. The next thing on my list was to check the coil as I've been informed that they can start the car then play about once it warms up
