105 PD Elegance - Judder when setting off

Featured Replies

As per the title really, we have a September 2007 105 PD with only 23k miles on the clock, owned by my wife from new which has developed a fairly noticable judder when pulling away. This is sometimes also noticeable when selecting 2nd gear if at fairly low revs.

Its worse during what i'd describe as a normal sett off so say 1200 - maybe 1500 rpm. If you give the car a bit more gas so say around the 2000 rpm mark you dont tend to notice this as much.

Also on a couple of occasions I've noticed the car sounds a little rough and vibrates slightly on startup.

Im guessing dual mass flywheel problem but surely this has to be a faulty one from Day 1 if its gone after only 23k

Anyone any thoughts or experienced similar issues on this engine, I know the 2 litre had dual mass problems but didn't think the 1.9 was as bad.

I've not booked it in to be looked at yet because I'd be keen to hear if anyone has had any joy from Skoda UK on such issues at low mileage.

Faulty engine mounts can cause same sort of symptoms

Booked in for Thursday morning at the garage, he is gonna do a quick assessment but from my description he also suspects DMF failure. Like u describe Mike sometimes on a hill start its shocking.

Oh and after speaking to the mechanic and describing how my wife drives the car (fairly lazy with the handbrake) he recommended the SMF so thats what its having.

I considered a trade in for a new one but to be honest i cant justify the expense when the car has only done 23k so we thought lets get it sorted and keep the thing.

No, don't do that! It will be a totally different car to drive once the SMF conversion is done -- you'll love it.

Keep us posted, let us know what you have done.

Mike

Yeah we decided that last night, basically the car is in near perfect condition with the exception of this flywheel problem and I cant face the insult of the trade in price with only 23k on the clock.

Collecting the car Thursday evening so will let you know how it goes. At least when we do finally get rid of it with the SMF conversion done I can advertise it as TAXI ready :-)

Just jumping in on this one - mine labours like (rhymes with duck) when it's on low revs but after it picks up there's no problem. I thought it was the dsg at first but now I'm wondering....

It's a 2.0 CR by the way. Is it likely ? 27k so far and not yet 3yrs old.

This was discussed some time ago. Someone said they always pump the clutch pedal 10-20 times while they faff about with the seat belt and wait the 3 seconds for the glow plug light to go out.

I once had bad snatch from gear 1 to gear 2 and nasty judder on take off. This weird trick has cured my problems completely.

just my 2 pennorth

Afraid theres no SMF kit for PD140,PD170,CR140 or CR170

Well I collected it from the garage this morning following the SMF conversion yesterday and my initial thoughts are positive. The juddering appears to have been resolved and if im honest I really can’t tell any difference in terms of how the car drives.

I don’t know if this is just me but the car does seem to have a slightly noisy starter motor compared to what it used to be like. The mechanic that did the work said they had the starter off before proceeding with the flywheel work just to check it wasn't faulty and all looked good. He also said that when they did get the flywheel off it wasn't as bad as he'd have expected based on the judder we were experiencing. I must admit this did worry me a bit.

I might take it for a long ish run this weekend just to prove everything but fingers crossed all looks good so far.
