Should the next vRS mk IV be 4x4?

Featured Replies

This is just a thought but VRS stand for Victory Rally Sport, so should Skoda make the next VRS a 4x4? If you look at other car makes such as Subaru Impreza's, Mitsubishi Evo's they are all 4x4's and bloody fast too! I also would have thought if the next vRS would be 4x4 even more people would buy them as Skoda is cheaper to buy than any of the 2 makes above. The vRS is already fast but if it was 4x4 like an Impreza or Evo it would be very fast! and better for winter use too. Ford also don't make they're road car such as the RS 4x4, why? It has 300bhp in the front wheels which in my opinion sounds a bit wasted really. Does anyone know why manufactures do this other than cost? Also would anyone like it if Skoda introduced a 4x4 system for the vRS? I'd love it! :thumbup:B)

All of the above is irrelevant. The primary concerns are price point and profit margin, company tax band, emissions and not stealing sales away from bigger margin, premium marques within the group. Making the new vRS 4wd adversely affects all of those.

As Nick P says

If vRS's where 4x4, or Golf GTI's or Seat Leon Cupra's for that matter, where would the Golf R32, Golf R, S3 and RS3 fit in the lineup ?

ps

Octavia 4x4s have been tuned to beyond RS3 capability ;)

I'm happy with 2wd - looking at the RRP of a specced up vRS, the cost of a 4x4 version is likely to be prohibitive to a lot of buyers

And we haven't even had a Mk3 yet

I'd love skoda to make an RS+ as per the concepts, 260bhp engine from the Golf R (and others) with recaros etc but i doubt it'll ever happen. Also, consider for the premium in price they'd charge you for that you could easily buy a stock TSI Vrs and add a K04 to make something even quicker.

Does it need 4wd? I don't think so. Cupra and the Scirocco R all manage fine with Fwd and probably drive better for it (less weight). Also, the vw system on the golf is only part time - check out evo magazine from a few months ago - they tested 2011 WRX STI agaisnt Evo and the Golf R. The golf didn't do very well IIRC so I can't see 4wd making the Vrs into a subaru beater either.

02p etc.

I would like a 4wd irrelevant of the points above. The points above are relevant when you look at it realistically. It's good to want things though

OK, I might have gone a bit overboard on this idea! :giggle: I also think that if Skoda was to introduce a 4x4 vRS the price of what should be a budget car would shoot up :o This is of course no good for Skoda sales. I lso don't feel the need for a 4x4 version as there are S3's and Audi TT Quattro's etc that that have it, even though they cost a lot more to buy.

they dont have a nice big boot though do they :D :D

the mk1 4x4 is a great car I don't understand why they opted not to do a detuned petrol turbo 4x4 in the mk2

I found a guy on u-tube who has built a 4x4 vrs octy, sure the bits to do it came from a audi a3. i dont remember how i found it but i do remember it was red lol.

You can get a 1.8 TSI 4x4 - that would make a good base car if you wanted to build your own 4x4 vRS (or get the 2.0 TDI CR 140 4x4 if you prefer diesel)

would be better if it was available with the 5 cylinder out of the TT :D

Yes it should be available, why the CR170 is not available in the Scout is beyond me (or even leather seats). Means I have had to get a SM!

Shark performance will tune the 140 diesel to beyond 170 if required, and I'm sure the Scout is available with leather?

well im dead happy with my 2.0 TDI CR 140 4x4, its my 2nd 4x4 and the new fl 140cr is so much better than my 105pd.

so tempted in a few years time to find, a crashed 4x4 Octy, steal the bits from it, and then find a 2.5 TFSI and lob that in too, what a car that would make!

I thought vRS stood for v and then RS and the v was a simple add on for the UK market where FORD own the rights to the RS brand name. So v stands for v not victory, or v haf to add somezing to RS and v haf chosen v ans it vos v wot vos talking about vot to add.
