Yeti Winter tyres pictures?

Featured Replies

Hi folks

I am thinking about swapping my Octavia for a Yeti and I was planning to keep my existing winter tyres, Nokian 205 55 R16 WRG2 but the service manager in my dealer was telling me they look really terrible on the yeti and it looks like it's been lowered quite badly.

So I see that a few people do have just that very combination of car and tyre so has anyone got any pictures they can share so I can take a view on how awful or otherwise it might look?

thanks

Hmmm, just been looking through my photos and I dont actually have many useful ones of the car on winters from the side!

Sorry, I don't have pictures of my Yeti with its winter boots on but surely it looks much like any other Yeti variant that comes with 16" wheels as standard (E and S IIRC)? I'm pretty sure that Johann (aka 900000) had 205 55 R16s on his Yeti last winter. A trawl around the forum will probably come up with some picures of his much-photographed car in its cold weather guise.

If you think you might need to fit snow chains then the 205 55 R16s give more clearance. The manual (pages 220 and 221) has more detailed information about which wheel/tyre combinations you are allowed to use chains with, depending on whether your car will be 2WD or 4WD, and which axle you want to put them on if 4WD.

The extra clearance around the wheel can also help cope with claggy snow filling the wheel arch.

It's down to personal preference at the end of the day but I chose to go with the benefits outlined above, plus a good deal on the Nokians + wheels from Mytyres. Personally I think they make the Yeti look more purposeful in winter, and less like a soft-roader that will bog down in more than an inch of snow.

The 'small' 205/55 R16 are not standard on any Snow Monster.....If the car has 16" wheels then they have the 215/60 R16 tyres fitted. The 205's are one of the recommended winter tyre sizes.

Problem with the 205's is that you lose about 1/2 inch in ground clearance, when you least want to lose it.

215/60 R16:

grey Snow Monster with 'small' tyres, the rest on standard ones...

thanks guys, that's my mind at rest then. No need for new tyres then, the WRG2s are the business and I don't think I'm too worried about snow chains or ground clearance. The Octavia did get bogged in with deep snow out by the Forth Bridge in January but other than that it was fine so the SM will be much the same even with half an inch less clearance.

I just need to suss out whether to go the trade in route or sell the L&K privately and decide between the 1.2 and 1.4 on the Yeti.
