Any Yeti CR170 & VRS CR170 owners out there?

I know there are a few complete Skoda family's out there? just wondering if there are any VRS owners who have went to the CR170 4x4 Elegance and their views on their cars. Just got a fully loaded demonstrator to beat the 6+ month wait.

Now on my 3rd vRS 170, have a Yeti 170 on order for March. Will be interested to see other replies!

I have a vRS CR Estate (2010) and the wife has a Yeti 170 Elegance (2010).

In truth, they're two very different cars despite sharing the same engine. Fuel consumption is much better in the vRS (46 vs 39), though my car tends to get more longer journeys (30, 40 or 50 miles) whereas the Yeti gets used a lot in town and also tows a horse trailer.

Ride comfort in the Yeti is better, it's also a bit quieter and it comes equiped with more toys as standard (though is more expensive). I do prefer the vRS driving position and its seats (leather in mine), but really can't fault the Yeti as it's a very well rounded car.

They both offer great value and Skoda now seems to be moving into the original VW territory of offering good quality cars at competitive prices now that VW has gone more upmarket.

Neither are the height of fashion, but somehow that makes them even more attractive in my eyes, particularly the Yeti which so isn't trying to look fashionable and cool, that one feels it deserves a position very much to the right on the "cool wall" B)

John, an excellent post, I agree about VW territory, FWIW due to the waiting list I was trawling the Tiguan 1 year old in the CR170 R Line guise with leather. Anyway just back from our first weekend away in Crieff, seen a few Yetis around Perthshire, was me flashing chaps whizzing past!. Agree about the different feel of each car, but the CR170 in the Yeti, has some wellie when required, interesting cornering due to 4WD I feel, but not as repsonsive as the VRS.

Iain you'll like it when you get it, very substantial feeling SUV. Nice and solid. I previously had a 1.8T VRS so now on my 3rd one. I am counting the Yeti CR170 as a SUV VRS!

Part MPV, part estate, part 4x4 – it’s no wonder the Yeti is as popular as tickets to next year’s Olympics. We usually recommend the 1.2 TSI model for its low list price and small running bills, but if fun rather than frugality is high on your list of priorities, this is the version for you.

The turbocharged 158bhp petrol engine gives straightline performance more akin to a hot hatch than a family runabout, and the Yeti doesn’t disappoint in the bends. The chunky tyres have plenty of bite, the steering is quick and accurate, and there’s surprisingly little body lean – which all make driving quickly on a windy road really quite entertaining. Skoda’s crossover is surprisingly capable off-road, too.

Don't think of the Octavia vRS as a dull estate with a pokey engine and a few spoilers attached. Instead, view it as a super-sized Golf GTI and you’ll be on the money.

A 197bhp 2.0-litre turbocharged engine sits under the bonnet, linked to a snickety six-speed gearbox. The suspension is firm (but not too firm), and the interior has the odd adornment or two to let you know you’re not in a taxi-spec Octavia.

You’ll become even more aware that you’re in the hot model as soon as you set off: the engine revs smoothly and cleanly, the car takes corners with genuine vigour and you’ll keep up with some much more overtly sporting machinery. Oh, and you can throw a garden’s worth of rubbish into the huge boot for a seriously quick trip to the dump.

I test drove the CR170 VRS straight after the CR140 Yeti (bought the CR170 Yeti) and my take was that the Yeti had much better seats (nasty ridge under the thighs in the Octy), a nicer interior and could actually put the power down - the Octy was scrabbling at every junction and I wasn't particularly thrashing it.

There was really no question about which I was going to buy - went back in and said "that engine (vrs) but in that (Yeti) please"

You made a wise choice buying the Yeti CR170 ... but not all VRS seats are equal ....... :p agree about the scrabbling, sometime the torque from the off is too much for 2 wheels I agree. But when it gets the grip onto the tarmac...oh lordy!

Not got round to owning a vRS, did look at a Fabia I version way back but it felt to harsh to drive as a day to day car, so we struck with the HTP 64 we had at the time :S However we are currently a total Skoda family, with the Yeti and two Fabia 1.2's (HTP 54 & TSI 85). My dad also has a Superb II 170 DSG, which I've driven quite a few times; very smooth to drive and quick but I still prefer my Monster.

I love the Superb, in fact in the absence of a Scout with the CR170 engine :thumbdown: (why?), I was tempted by a Superb CR170 4x4 Elegance. The Estate version is a huge load lugger. Glad I held out for the Yeti though.

I have a yeti 170, it is two weeks old tomorrow, travelled 2500 miles so far on the motorway and A roads, also towed the trailer to scout camp, it did it all with ease, tomorrow it will tow the caravan to Wales! all 1500kg of it. The torque is good as is the power when you give it some wellie!

My wife has a Fabia vRS II that is a few months old now it too is very quick but the yeti can leave it from the lights as the 4x4 gets the power down.

I prefer both Skoda cars to the Audi I have given up for the Yeti.

I think the VRS I tried was the previous model year - no flappy paddles and the interior didn't look right for a new 'un.

I have a Yeti CR170 Elegance which has just completed 4000 miles. The engine is a peach - it has so much torque it feels like it could tow a 30 ton truck. I love the acceleration that comes in heaps when I put my foot down, and however I drive it I get decent fuel economy. I am getting mid 40's around town and about 50 on a long run. The Yeti has the aerodynamics of a brick, so it doesn't return great economy on motorways, however I am sure with the same engine in a sleeker saloon or hatchback the acceleration and economy will be much better.
