Some observations from a proud owner of 48 hours

Yes folks, out of the blue and three weeks early, we had a call from Trans City to say the SM was here and ready for collection. I will try and post a few pictures when a couple ‘tweaks’ have been completed.

Firstly I can confirm that she has got fold back mirrors. She can waggle her ears! How cool is that?

I did not have the electric chair option so I have no dipping mirrors when reversing, which is a shame.

Park assist.................. Oh my God! If you are thinking of getting sensors front and back then spend a few pound more and get this.Even if you only use it a few times it will be worth it. I am the second to world’s worst at parallel parking and this does it so cleanly and consistently it is untrue.

Panoramic sunroof........if in doubt then get it. It is awesome

Heated windscreen..........Obviously I haven’t used it in anger yet but was taken back the first time I drove the SM in the dark and saw how oncoming headlights look like when seen through it. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not obtrusive just something to get used to.

Cruise control..............I don’t know if it’s me or the car but somehow, when using this, I am able to activate the indicators without actually moving the stalk! This has happened a couple of times and I am still trying to see how.

I chose the Black Magic Pearl colour and boy does she look good. First black car I have had and hadn’t realised how even the daintiest of sweaty fingers can leave marks just by opening and closing the door! Either all passengers will wear cotton gloves from now on or it’s down to Halfords for some Autoglym Detailer spray

Overall though there is still a silly smirk on my face as I relish the way she looks and handles – what a beauty.

Anything I miss from my Forester? I miss not having the light around the ignition lock. I have already marked the trim where I haven’t got the key in cleanly but apart from that nothing. This is one contented owner.

A huge thank you to all on this forum for advice gleaned and helping to pass the time whilst waiting for the delivery day

Nice report - you are obviously as pleased as I was on delivery.

Yes - I frequently accidently trip that indicator option which I think is optional via maxidot. It is a function whereby if you just very lightly move the indicator stalk it winks about 6 times. I keep meaning to find it in maxidot and turn it off - I did so on my Octavia. Nearly had an accident when I activated it using cruise control suggesting I was turning left and the car in the junction pulled out on me. The indicator stalk is very sensitive when this function is in use.

The car sound very nice and I look forward to seeing the pic's as I an contemplating the black with panoramic roof. Would you also post a pic of the mirror switch and heated windscreen switch (sad).

Ah.......... the dreaded maxidot................thanks for input - I will have a look

yes that did the trick, you star

If I could remember the sequence I would post it for others but senility means I have already forgotten!!

cheers

Thanks for that info re the indicators - I had no idea it was 'turnoffable'. There's not many of the automatic functions that i wouldn't turn off if allowed to, and that is certainly one of them!

Admittedly you do have to be careful when setting the cruise control, but I find the touch-and-three-flashes function of the indicators very useful for eg motorway overtaking/returning to lane or even just to give a quick indication of an intended move to another road user at a junction when everyone is being terribly polite and giving way to everyone else!

+1. I use it all the time on the motorway.

you soon get used to it in conjunction with the cruise control.
