19x8.5" ET45 wheels?

Featured Replies

Hey guys, looking into upgrading my factory 18" wheels to VMR style 710's in 19x8.5" ET45. In order to satisfy load ratings, the most appropriate and available tyres for the application are 235/35R19 91Y. Has anybody had any experience with this size wheel and tyre combo and will it cause scrubbing when the car is loaded or not and with or without lowering of the suspension?

Really want to get these wheels but don't understand why all websites that list the wheels suited for the octavia rs and golf gti have offsets of 45 only. Also, there have been mixed opinions on what will rub and what won't. At least would like to know if they will rub or not if keeping factory ride height.

They fit spot on. I would used 225 tires in sted of 235 :)

A sort-of-related question - is the 91Y rating SO important?

The reason I ask is:

I have a set of VMR710's on order, I have been told they are now in the UK awaiting customs clearance so it's only (hopefully) a few more days until I take delivery. The company I am purchasing them from (Niche) are going to fit some 225/35 19 Vredestein Ultrac Sessantas for me before they send the wheels up to me, but on the Vredestein website it says the rating is 88Y (but also has XL, which I am fairly confident means Xtra Load).

Am I ok going for 88Y XL tyres instead of 91Y?

Yes the load index is very important, if you fit lower rated tyres then the tyres will roll more on the rim, with the chance of them coming off the rim, you will also invalidate your insurance as 88Y's are not approved for the vRS.

The vRS have LI88 så it is no problem to use tires with LI88. I have used tires with LI85 alot, and no problem that either, but not legal tho.

Is it LEGAL to use LI88 though?

i.e. COULD i have issues with my insurance company in the event of an accident where the car is wearing LI88 tyres, when it was originally built with LI91 tyres on it?

The insurance company will be informed of the increase in rim diameter so no worries there, just slightly concerned as when you look online there doesn't seem to be anyone who produces a 225/35 19 91Y tyre. I can see a 235/35 19 91Y but not a 225. I've been told that a 235 will PROBABLY rub on the car which I want to avoid, hence going for the 225.

When I was considering it I rang Camskill told them my plan, and they said they wouldn't supply the tyres because of the load rating issue

Covering their backs I suppose

The vRS have minimum LI88, so you drive LEGAL with LI88 :) the reason that you have LI91 tires now is becouse higher profile tires have an higher LI :)

Not sure what the laws are or what your tyre placard says on your car but here in Australia, our vRS's clearly state that the tyres fitted must be at least 91 load rating with no less than a W speed rating. Because there are no 225/35/R19 tyres available that meet the load requirements, a 235 tyre is required. In the event of an accident or being pulled over by the authorities and if they have a good look at it, they can deem your car unroadworthy. Hence that's why 235/35/R19 91Y tyres are a must and a bare minimum in order to satisfy these requirements.

It says clearly in the car paper here that min LI is 88, at least in germany and norway. I dont really understand why that not is the same?

All these codes are going straight over my head, but what I will add is @ OP, VMR 710's look the nuts, 235 shouldn't be a problem so get them and get the pictures on ASAP!!
