Help - Window regulator connector

Featured Replies

At the back of the carrier you will see a grommet with the wiring going through it, this will stop you removing the carrier, reach upwards and unclip the connector on the door lock. This is the connector

You can see (hopefully) where my thumb is, you need to rock that tag back which will open the connector, then remove.

Help!

I am stuck trying to get this connector off - do you need to push the tag in i.e. towards the wires or pull it outwards? It is very stiff and wont budge.

BTW the plastic bit that the lock rod engages broke as I attempted to remove the carrier, hopefully that just means I'm without a lock indicator.

Thanks. I'm looking but not really any wiser as the pictures arent clear.

Edit: Broke the tang and the plug fell off! Didnt use that much force. Just reinforces my view of poor quality plastics that seems to plague VAG.

Will have to tywrap or duck tape the connector when refitting to make sure it doesnt fall off.

I had rivets in my carrier - what a cheapskate chinese way to do things. Obviously cheapest possible way to build but no regard to repair/service.

The cause of failure of the window mechnism was a snapped plastic slider - again CHEAP PLASTIC.

Opinion of Skoda (I have a Mk2 also) is going down. They are just a cheap(ish) car - built cheaply.

He he - did exactly the same the first time I fixed my bust my regulator a few years ago (the window is currently held up by electrical tape awaiting a similar second repair!). Any how, I sorted mine by wiring the end of the rod to the remainder of the actuator plastic bit using garden tie wire. Works fine but fiddly to do within the confines of the trailing edge of the door. Also, if you do do this then stick some felt to the back of the carrier in the vicinity of where the rod will be when it's all assembled otherwise the rod will rattle against the carrier given you've broken the connector and it'll rattle and drive you nuts!

Par for the course I'm afraid - they fail due to going brittle with age, wear and the grease on the runners drying out over time. They are the same part as used on Golfs which are also prone to failure but for the later golfs they used a metal casting rather than plastic.

If the wires are all still OK you can get new plastic runners for about £6 on ebay.
