water pump on 1.8 20v turbos

Normal checks I would advise

:-excessive stone chipping, bonnet and front valance -

:-parking dents

:-windscreen chips

:-alloy scufs

:- spare alloy? and condition -tools present- tyre used? same make as car tyres?

: frayed caught fabric on seats

:-water or other stains on seats

:- soiled carpets

:-boot area carpet and trim condition - tell tail sign of usage

:-tyre condition - should give indication of how hard car has been driven. Are they all same make?

:- Drive at least to 70 ish on a smooth road at varing constant speeds to check for wheel balance issues.

:- Clutch and brake and gear operation inc reverse. ease of selection, action, slip, judder, pull, noises etc.

I've never sold a car privately before and it is a right royal PITA. Wanna buy a Volovo T5? It's faster than my vRS...

Well, funny you should mention that - my first choice was a T5 but there a bit old now so have opted to the Octy

Mine's a 1998 with full history - Looking for 3K. Awesome machine!

Only downside is that my wife won't drive it (too big!)

Yip, got all the usual checks in mind, cheers John.

I was wondering about issues specific to that model?

Water pump has been highlighted. Also check for turbo damage after being out on a test drive - can be visible when car is ticking over at standstill.....a normal check for any turbo car.

Cheers dude :)

Call that a downside, even if I have to get out of bed to shove my Octy up the drive 3foot for her to squeeze past in her 206 Ill blo0dy do it. I think shes intimidated by the engine and black leather, good job me thinks.

women+kerbs=knackered alloys

an octy of that age with 11'500 on the clock is old enough to get past teething problems and shoudl give you thousands of miles of touble free motoring.....obvious thing again but check see if there is no finance outstanding on it....

Aye, indeed, although its from a reputable Saab dealer and he has apparently checked it already.

Do you think its worthwhile doing my own HPI check??

just ask to see the hpi report for yourself, i saw this both on screen and have a copy from when i bought mine. the bloke nearly threw me out when he ran an hpi check and found a milage issue and the car not being in my name, soon calmed down when i handed him the small section of the v5 that i kept when i sent the old one off which i never recieved a replacement for despite ordering 3 more , and the millage issue was due to the previous keeper sticking a random milage in when doing the previous hpi check, but the actual milage corresponded to the service history so all was cool in the end
