ebay HiD kit recommendations

Featured Replies

It's my uncles 50th birthday this month and I plan to get a kit for him, So I'm looking for seller recommendations!

I'm after a 35w H1 kit.

And before anyone says it, The car it's going in, Is a 53plate 04MY Audi Allroad,

The car has,

Projector dipped beams,

Auto Headlight levelling,

Self levelling suspension,

Headlight wash & The dipped beam stays on with main beam activated.

So from an MOT perspective it meets all the criteria.

There's a staggering amount of kits available from numerous sellers, I'm looking for anybody who can recommend me one on a first hand experience basis.

Thanks in advanceemoticon-0148-yes.gif

Pay the extra money and buy from a british supplier, i got my first 2 sets from a place in manchester and never had any trouble, then i bought a cheap set from china and they were crap, faulty ballest packs

I have used these twice and the kits have been quality and well priced.

That will be the place from manchester i was talking about, thumbs up from me aswell, altho i bought them through there ebay shop ages ago, don't know if they still have one on ebay or just run from there site now

Didn't I read on the interwebs or here that the new 2012 MOT test will be failing hid kits without the correct lenses/levelling/washers?

Yeah, but from the sounds of it, the car has all of those anyway.

As recommended above, I'd steer clear of eBay and buy from someone like HIDs Direct or HIDS4U

Could you please explaing to those of us on the receiving end of these things what the attraction is? We would just like to see where we are going, rather than be routinely blinded by the latest fashion!

The sooner these headlights are banned the better, as far as I am concerned. I have yet to encounter any car fitted with them which did not dazzle.

But then, I'm just an experienced driver with a thing about road safety.......

OK! You might want to jump down from your high horse, It probably needs watered about now!

I've got factory Xenon's on my car, And trust me I'd never go back to Halogens willingly!

Read my post again and you find that the car these are going in meets/exceeds the requirements as specified by the DfT

If I were looking to fit a set of 12000k HiD's in a Corsa B "coz they look totally wicked like man", Then flame away!

This is the 21st century, Xenon's/HiD's are a technological advance and not heresy. And when configured correctly are a major safety feature.

Have you ever used a car with Xenon's fitted, Or is it a case of You don't like/see the need for them so nobody should have them?

Anyway back on topic

If they are all in accordance and behind the correct lenses and not just reflectors, then they are not bad, assuming the bulb length is correct.

I had dealings with hids4u, didn't get on with the things and so took them back. Didn't have any problems with the refund and the kit was of good quality, if a touch pricey.

Based on that, I'd say they are worth a punt if they are in your price range.

What I will say though is don't forget these things need isolation and a good solid ground as they can make a mess of motors such as wipers with the electrical noise they can generate.

I disagree, I have a set of these, which have been fitted for over 6 months now without any problems.

Fair enough mate, as long as you are happy. I have had 2 kits from HIDS Direct and they where both quality, complete with everything needed to fit them including cable ties to tidy the job up. The first set are now 3 years old and have been transfered from the old vRoomster to 2 different bikes and are still perfect.

If you can find a quality seller in the ebay lottery, then without a doubt go for it.

Been lucky so far, infact my vRS came from eBay! :o

tbh, with the feedback rating and a 2 year warranty I couldn't go wrong.

I once bought a cheap kit from ebay. Can't remember how much it was etc but it was really cheap!

Let's just say it didn't last very long.

If you want to know for sure you're getting a decent kit and service etc then got to HID's Direct etc or if you want to save some money then I'm sure there are some good kits available on ebay. Just a matter of trawling through the rubbish ones and finding a decent seller.

What colour temp you going for? I went for as close to OEM colour as possible with a 5000k one. Was pretty good and no hint of blue at all!

You can get 4300K too which I would go for as that's going to look nice and OEM but still chuck out a load more light than a candle halogen bulb!
