front bush diagnosis?

Featured Replies

hey all,

well ive had this clunking from the front left for some time now, usually only happened on speed bumps not it happends flat out if im on a bumpy road so i assume its getting worse, im aware it a bush of some sort but was just wondering if anyone could diagnose which one it is most likely to be be to save me replacing everything lol ive just recently put shortened drop links on with my coilovers so its not the drop links, whats left? arb bushes? console bushes? is it just the two?

i dont fancy paying for either superpro or powerflex so will just go the uprated cupra bushes, im safe enough buyng these from a dealer?

links would be greatly appreciated as im terrible at finding things, i have searched but its hard finding all the information together :(

are the cupra bushes only available for the console bush or the arb bush aswel?

many thanks

jordan

I thought if the console bushes were knackered then they creak. Sounds like a possible top mount issue or as you stated the arb bushes.

If it turned out to be the top mount what goes wrong? Big job? Expensive?

Brake hard at low speed and if it thuds/bangs, it's the console bushes.

Thanks for the link :) seen a how to guide on here for replacing them and the guy replaced multiple bolts aswel, is this necessary?

Most bolts will be ok to reuse when replacing the console bushes but the one bolt you will need to replace is the wishbone bolt as they knacker on the way out, only a pound or two from skoda if your replacing consoles best to replace both sides at the same time or you will get uneven wear, if your doing it yourself then I would recommend powerflex etc as they just push in oem ones are a real pain and I wouldn't like to try to use them again myself, personally I can't say about the cupra bushes but I'm sure someone else will

Skoda quoted me £4.00 each for the long wishbone bolt.

Cupras give more noise tho' bodywork compared to OEM or even the Powerflex or SuperPro!!! Powerflex are the easiest to install by hand as the console unit can be left insitu on car. Also spray and leave to soak the front pivot bolt with penetrating oil (also from rear of bolt as in a thro' hole) as this can sieze inplace. B)

See my post for torque settings.

What's the general consensus? That powerflex are rubbish? And to go with superpro? I may just do that then, anyone got a part number for the wishbone bolt or just drop in? That's pretty much the console bushes sorted :) now for the arb bushes?

Any links for parts? I believe that I'm best going for the superpro here as these directy affect handling in a positive way? :) also what else needs replaced bolts etc? :)

Cheers

I replaced mine with the powerflex ones and had no problems with them, but just pop into skoda they will be able to find the wishbone bolts as for what fabdabrav said lubrication is key

Here are some links for you :)

Powerflex ones used to be rubbish but they have revised them and no long have any issues! :)

However Superpro bushes listed here: http://www.awesome-gti.co.uk/section.php?xSec=2923&xPage=1 There are a few different types.

Hope this helps!

Mike

What kind of lube? Just grease? I assume my mechanic would have it?

Thanks

The console bush is the rear wishbone bush that will need copper assembly grease which if you go powerflex comes with it, but for the wishbone bolts etc get some penetrating oil and leave to soak, it helps with the removal etc most motor factors should stock it price depends on where you get it, If your getting a mechanic to do it then yeah he should have all the necessary things to do the job pray east know what he has to get to do the job

As above the console bushes are the front wishbone rear bushes :)

As for the ARB - I think they are usually 19mm IIRC but sometimes it is always best to measure the one on the car.
