SATNAV Mounting in Dashboard Cubby

Featured Replies

I'm thinking of borrowing a sat nav for the holidays and might want to mount it in the little cubby on top of the dashboard rather than stick it to the windscreen. There was a thread a while back about this- did anyone actually perfect the method? There is a considerable slope front to back in the cubby which may need some levelling.

My TomTom One wedges in between the front sloping edge of the cubby and the open lid. The cubby's rubber insert keeps it from slipping around.

For me it is only usable for short-medium journeys as I can't plug in the charger which feeds into the bottom and sticks out around 15mm.

That seems like a great idea. I'm going to dip into the bay to see if I can find one too.

have you got a link to the one you got from ebay - some look pretty shoddy on there

I grabbed a TomTom dash mount pad - removed the lining from the cubby & stuck it into the base.

Enables me to stick the mount on my TomTom down onto it and the unit sits in the cubby perfectly. It is a TomTom XL Live if that helps.

Thought about sticking the mount onto the underside of the lid but wasn't sure if it would bounce about.

The Garmin mounting disc had to be stuck to the underside of the lid. The angles would be wrong if I stuck it to the dashboard. Seems to be steady and is much closer to me than on the windscreen.

Thanks for all the advice. Now to try it in anger in France and Germany.

I did a write up on my garmin install (wardy already posted the link above..) I put the gamin disk on the bottom of the cubby and that works perfectly. Not sure why you'd want to put it on the lid - that makes no sense to me!

Mine wouldnt fit in the cubby hole so I did the no sense thing and mounted the disc in the lid

Perfect!!

Exactly for the reasons above . I offered the mount to both the interior of the cubby and the lid. But the mount only pointed in the correct direction when attached to the lid. It is completely different design to the one in your photos.

Came with a Garmin Nuvi 1340. Works fine and holds steady. Thanks for your inspiration.

i have put a bit of number plate in my hole so tom tom stickey holder sticks to that work well

thats what i got for my tom tom, fits on to air vent so no marks on screen and easy to touch think it was about £20 from halfords

I stuck Garmin disk to cubby lid, satnav sits there perfectly, near enough to reach/adjust etc and no nice round sticker marks on winscreen so show scallys that you have a satnav :)
