help ! water coolant going down and no leaks !

Featured Replies

Im getting really stressed with my 07 reg 1.9 tdi ambiante octavia. We had car serviced 3 months ago a month later the water coolant light came on & water coolant low opened cap and water came back up and topped up slightly. Took car to skoda dealer and they explained it was time for a new water pump and cam belt so had that done by a friend mechanic as was cheaper. 2 weeks later light came back on :OS so took it back to garage and thought it could only be the header tank as there isnt any coolant mixed in oil in engine plus its not over heating so replaced header tank and cap.....then.......light cam back on other day :o/ so today had a pressure test done which connects to header tank and had 20 psi pushed through it with no pressure being released anywhere so no leaks... im completely stuck and really need some kind of help please if you can xxx

As you've had the system pressure checked it can only be an air lock somewhere.

Hi. I thought I had a suggestion before you mentioend the presure test, but I may as well suggest it anyway.

I had a problem a few weeks ago, where I kept loosing water, and even after topping up, it would go down in a day or so.

When the RAC came out, it took 45 minutes for him to find a really, really, really small pin hole in the bottom pipes (sorry, dont know the technical term)

It was only when he took the cover off on the floor of the engine that he had some drips.

From what he was saying, the pipe was not on the clip correctly, so was rubbing, and this casued the issue.

Sorry I cant be any more specific, but if you shine a torch from the top of the engine, if you see a reflection (whcih is what took him 40 minutes) you might find it.

I did not get the pressure test, but would not have throught hte pressure would drop too much as the hole was so small.

good luck.

not too sure about that engine but does it have a water cooled egr valve they have been known to slowly leak into the exhaust and you may well not notice-----keep us posted cheers Nic

Had this happened on my G60 once and on my brothers jetta also happened this.
