AFS Inoperative

Featured Replies

Evening all.

Having a few problems with a Passat. Keeps showing AFS inoperative on the dash when starting.

VCDS scan shows an obvious fault of an uncoded module(s). But I'll be honest I'm stumped on this long coding stuff. I've attached the relevant bit from the scan, can anybody point me in the right direction here? Is it a simple case of recoding or is something else at fault?

Big thanks

Part No: ID-L fehlt

Coding: 00000255

means that the left hand module is faulty or there is a problem with the wiring. Can't remember if each headlight has it's own fuse on this car, so check.

You need to fix this first.

Pretty sure a 2006 Passat doesn't have AFS, looks like someone has been playing with coding and got it wrong?

You can get Xenon with AFS on a 3C and 5M0 907 357 is the right part.

Thanks for the help guys. Gives me a starting point.

I've had look at the PR codes and it apparently has AFS. But then again whoever ordered this from new went a bit mad when they saw the options list

Thanks

All 3Cs with a 5M0 Module have AFS, so that shouldn't be your problem. Though the issue is quite clear as rwbaldwin already pointed out. Once you have checked and potentially replaced the output stage you should be good I guess. Especially the early 3Cs are notorious for bad output stages.

As for the other codes, they are also covered by our WIKI.

As a side note, I would not be surprised if you end up replacing the other output stage as well as either one or both headlights sooner or later, the headlights contain the swiveling motors and sensors which are also known to fail before a certain build date.

Thanks for the input guys.

So in theory, if the owner didn't want to replace the module(s). Could it be re-coded to a non AFS setup? or would that in turn throw up errors of its own?

Gray

No, because in either case the power stages need to communicate and a missing one will always be a problem.

(Why do people buy cars if they are not willing to fix 'em properly?)

I'll give him the good news then :giggle:
