modifications and insurance

Featured Replies

How arsey can insurance companies get over modifications?

Which of the bigger companies are quite reasonable about it?

or is it just easier to go straight to Adrian Flux etc ?

Try brentachre they were the cheapest for my modified vrs

I used to have a modded (320bhp) Sapphire Cosworth 4x4 which I insured through Liverpool Vic (L.V) with no problem and a premium of £560 full comp.

I then sold the Cossy and bought my VRS

Once I had owned my Vrs for 4 years I fitted a Miltek exhaust, when I said to LV about it they threw their teddy's out of the pram and wouldn't cover me!

Hence I'm now with Adrian Flux.

Im with Adrian Flux, reluctantly theyre a bunch of !@~#"£$%... they proved the cheapest for my VRS when it was standard.

Brentaker i heard are good, and have the attitude of, 'your insured up to (insert bhp) and you can do what the chuffing hell you want with the car aslong as you let them know about it.

Ill be looking towards brantaker come november and my renewal is up.. and i decide to tell them about whats actually on my car

I changed my insurance from Integra to vRS with no uplift in premiums for the final month of the policy, so will see what it costs full year.

However Sky Insurance are who i've used for years with a heavily modified Integra and i'd recommend them.

I phoned flux this year for mine, they were as cheap with all my mods declared as a decent insurence on comparison sites

I was going to go with Premium choice who offered me a good £350 less than what im paying with Adrian Flux,

but they said they cant offer me the insurance quoted on the comparison website because i hadnt been insured on a car with that much power before.

long argument followed and i quoted them my insurance policy number from work that insures me on 500+bhp sports cars on the road every single day... (it checked out ok)

they then told me that they wont insure me atall anymore and to go away lol!!

What Integra did you have out of interest? I sold my DC2 Type R in May :(

Insurance on the Octavia is about £200 a year cheaper for me than the Type R.

Edit: I'm with Admiral. My Octavia is standard, my Integra had a couple of mods (exhaust back box and uprated brake pads) but don't think they made much difference to my premium.

Sorry, i ment its a good thing. I'm 22, declared all my modifications (see signature below), 3 years ncb and they only wanted £550. Cars insured for 4.2k.

I'm insured with Flux on a standard VRS.

Apart from them being cheapest they assured me that an aftermarket exhaust system (due in Oct or Nov this year) would be no problem, every other company threw their teddy out at the talk of modifications. I also said I was doing all of the suspension next year with aftermarket stuff and again was told not a problem. Will have to see.
