Featured Replies

Hello there guys,

just saw those on ebay:

My link

they come £262 with pads plus postage to Iceland.

can anyone here beat that price? :)

Please inform

Tomas,

ICELAND.

Try crnperformance or crn products (I can't remember what there called now) There an eBay seller, I'm runnin there grooved discs front and rear and they've been fine.

Or you could try some of the forum sponsors

I wouldn't bother, only ever had one set of grooved discs and never again, the droning noise ever time you brake gets really annoying after about 2 weeks,

Just stick a decent set of plain discs on

Mine have never droned........

yours havent droned because you dont drive it lol

must say disc with groves work well for heat and dust removal but i wouldnt get drilled as they crack!!!!

you will get dronning and alot of dust but they do work well

best option would be some plain brembo discs with ds2500 pads

yours havent droned because you dont drive it lol

I do just not very often now lol.

Stay away from X Drilled and Groved stuff, dont do nought and just look chavey!

Get a decent set of pads and some OEM discs, say from euro or GSF

if grooved did nought why do most race teams and high performance cars use grooved discs????

they do alot just in this application there not needed is more the answer

Grooved discs are used by Race teams!!! The clue is in the name! RACE if they were good for road use they would be fitted to every other production car in the world!

Grooved discs are primarily used fo shedding water, dirt and so on in Rally, race applications but do give a better initial bite.

But the down side is they grone and quicken pad wear.

Cross drilled discs are better in the respest that to some extent they help cool the disc and help get gasses, made buy the pad awau from the disc surface but as always the down side is constant hard use, street or even more so track days will cause them to crack between the drillings.

Also having a drilled or grooved disc will actually lower the braking force of the disc by lower the frictianl area by the lack of contact with the pads, only minor agreed but never the less if are going to be pickey about it, which obviously we are but this reply to your post! it all makes a difference.

So in reality the best braking system for use with the occasional track day, or not!

Would be plain discs with a decent set of pads, nothing too high spec as full on race pads will be too harsh on the discs if they are left cold and not brough up to temp, which you wouldnt be bale to do on the road.

Or if you want something upgraded a set of Porsche 4 pots!

Once again though you can go too far with the piston size, too bigger piston will result in over braking and too much pedal travel and a braking system that’s hard to modulate so correct selection of calipers is key.

For example if you work out a standard VRS caliper which is 54mm in diameter in to its surface area using 3.14, the best matched caliper, the nearest surface area will be something like a Boxster caliper that’s got a piston of 40mm and 1 of 38mm(you only need to take in to account one side!)

And the ideal would be two of 38mm so these are the best option, Obviously Boxster S calipers work well but you could get to the point of having a set of multi pot calipers with too much braking force and too much pedal travel!

As you can see fitting good brakes to a car isn’t about having holes or grooves, unless of course you like to look chavey!

thats why the above was written ;-)
