fitting aftermarket double din

Featured Replies

hi all i have posted this in the ICE section as well as im looking for as much info as possible!!!

currently my car (mk1 octavia vrs) is fitted with MFD1 and the phatbox hardrive system. however i have decided to take them both out and fit a aftermarket double din unit and its looking like its gonna be the pioneer AVH-3300BT

my question is how easy is it to remove the hardrive system and MFD and more importantly how easy is it to fit an aftermarket double din unit? is it just a matter of plug and play?

im looking to do it this weekend so any help/tips/pointers would be gratefully appreciated

Definitely take off the glove box while doing it makes life alot easier. I also took out the climate controls and I've heard of people taking out the middle vents too.

To take the mfd out should be just a matter of unplugging it. When putting your new radio in you may need to switch some cables around, so when you turn your ignition off the radio doesn't reset you'll need a multimeter to tell when cables are effected by the ignition. I think its usually the red and yellow you switch I'd double check that though. Installing a radio is pretty easy in my opinion even if you've never done it before.

I'm not the best when it comes to typing up tutorials but if you get in trouble there are loads of people on here including myself willing to help if you do get stuck.

And if your looking to sell your mfd ill gladly take it off your hands. ;-)
