Cam Belt

Featured Replies

Can I have some advise from a Tech Head?

I have a Skoda Fabia 1.9 SDI 51 plate. Can someone tell me how often do I need to change the Cam Belt?? I have had it a year now and need to find out from the dealer when it was last done. Are they expensive to have changed to?

Thank you for and help with this

Every 4 years or 40_000 miles. Is there an entry for "toothed belt changed" in the service log? If so, then that's the last cambelt change.

I don't know about Kentish labour charges (or labour charges of Kent ;) ) but about £160 parts for a full kit and 3 hours labour including a new water pump. The water pump's not a scheduled task, but it's £30 and 15 minutes with a cambelt change, or 3 hours plus water pump and a new cambelt if it fails, and the life of the pump seems to be about 80_000 to 90_000 miles.

I've changed mine (X reg SDi) every 70k to 80k miles (about every 2.5 years) and am now on 312k. I change the oil and filter at 5k intervals.

Really? Fabia vRS is 80/60,000 (later ones) and octavia SDi`s are 60,000 so i`d have thought these would be the same

Pretty sure it's 60k or four years, if you PM me your chassis number I can check.

Just ring up Skoda customer services 08457 745 745 and they will check your chassis/reg number and get back to you within a day with a definite answer.

Yeah for some reason in the UK the recommendations are 40k miles or 4 years for the 130pd engine - it changed when the variable service interval was introduced on new VAG group cars. Doing some web searching the US and European interval is a lot higher.

I have seen the Czech service manual and my log book, it says 120k km for replacement but a visual inspection at 60k km.
