Octavia 4&4

Recommended Posts

I have an 06 plate 60k mile Octavia 4*4, dealer maintained from new. Recently a howling noise has started from the rear end worst at 50-60mph.Similar to a failed diff or wheel bearing.

Not having much faith in the local dealer, I took it to an independent who said that the Haldex clutch oil filter had probably never been changed as it is an awkward job and that would cure the noise. It has not.

Last time I drove it there was the briefest of lock ups from the back axle sufficient to bring the ESP light on and for me to think "Now I have major problem".

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

There is a rubber coupling in the rear prop shaft which can fail and cause a grumbling noise. Mine was replaced just after 60K and it is not cheap at about £190. Hopefully it is just this that is causing your problem and not something more expensive.
