approx. replacement starter motor cost?

Featured Replies

My 2000 felicia diesel estate has been starting to give me trouble starting - yesterday I got stranded in a car park because nothing happens when you turn the key - lights and radio etc all work though so not battery. We bypassed it with some wire on the battery and got to a garage, who couldn't do anything there and then so we carried on, reliant on the wire. This morning however the wire has lost its magic and nothing happens at all! I guess it's a dead starter motor then? It's booked in on Tuesday.

Anybody got any clue on what this is likely to cost to put right? I have no clue and would like a rough idea - £100? £1000? My garage guy is really cagey about pricing!!

it will cost you the price of a new starter motor, thats all, if you change it yourself! (very easy to do)

Blimey, I really don't trust myself to do it! I should go on a mechanicking course though, it would save a lot!

But, we fiddled about with the wire and got it starting via that again, so maybe not the starter motor after all. I think it might just general electric problems, as the horn went a while ago and had to be rewired, then the lights went and now the starting....
