Caliper painting

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

Does anyone know a good way to repaint the brake calipers without removing them?

I am a complete mechanical biff and beyond changing a tyre, my mechanical knowledge ends there!

Can it be done with them still attached or would I be better paying someone to do them? If so, what would be a reasonable rate?

Cheers

It could be but why would you. It means that you would have to properly wrap the area to make sure you didn't get it all over the pads, discs, wheel liner, shock, wing and so forth and by doing so you are more that likely to cover up areas that you need to paint.

TBH, calipers are one od the easiest things to get off the car. I know you say your not very good with mechanics but brakes are fundemntal part of an MOT/road safety so its worth knowing how todo it yourself and in learning you can paint your calipers.

If you do take them off the car to do them make sure

they have been cleaned and degreased thoroughly.

Any trace of residual brake fluid will make the paint bubble.

Tip it out of the piston reservoirs before you start as they will

almost certainly contain some.
