Had first service - confused about next

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have a Fabia 1.6 TDI CR which had it's first service back in May after doing 9,680 miles. The service book shows that the engine oil was changed and an inspection service was carried out. The bit I'm confused about is that the info filled in for the next inspection service says 19,680 miles or September 2011 (whichever comes first or according to the service interval display).

Is this correct or has the garage just got the date wrong? The same date is on the sticker they've put under the bonnet. I would have thought the next one was next May or ~18,000 miles.

Cheers.

Hi JimboJones

We too have a 1.6Tdi CR Elegance hatch. It has just had an oil service at 9600 miles (in fact 2 oil services because the garage used the wrong oil at first - PD oil instead of longlife - and had to do it again!!).

From what I can see in my service book the car is due an oil/filter change service @ 10000 miles OR 12 months from 1st. registration then an inspection service @ 20000 miles OR 24 months from 1st. registration - whichever comes first.

So because your car has had its' oil/filter service @ 9680 miles in May 2011 its' next service (an inspection service) will be due @ 19680 miles OR May 2012 - whichever comes first.

Hope this helps.

Regards

Alan

I've stuck with the 10k mile service intervals for the last 60000 and not had any problems. The computer does tell you that the service should be at 10,000 KM (which is sooner) but I've normally taken that as the indication that I need to book the service soon rather than have it serviced! General consensus from what I've seen is that working on miles and not KM is ok.

And if you're looking for a dealer in the Oxford area then I'd suggest you get prices from Grey Gables (just outside Witney) as the price difference between them and Jewson. I also can't fault Grey Gables - the guy even opened up and changed a headlight bulb for me on Boxing Day!

Thanks Alan, I think that's what I'll go with. I'm sure the car will bother me with a message if it decides it needs something sooner!

Thanks radfordln. It was actually Grey Gables we went to. Bought from Jewson but didn't like their service prices!
