Stereo not working and airbag warning light on

Featured Replies

I have just got a 2001 Skoda Fabia 1.4 Classic and have a couple of issues. It was my father-in-laws car and has been lying idle for 6 months or so.

When I picked it up the engine management light was on as was the airbag light and the stereo wouldn't switch on. The management light sorted itself soon after and has not came on since. However the stereo has only sparked into life for a minute or so in the last couple of weeks. The airbag light comes on with the first turn of the key goes off a couple of seconds after the car starts and then comes back on and stays on.

The car is due its MOT in a couple of weeks and I am not sure if the airbag light will be a fail or not. I am also interested if this means the airbag has malfunctioned.

The stereo is a pain too and I guess there must be a loose connection given it occasionaly come to life.

The battery seems to be fully charged when I plug it into the charger. I haven't had the chance to check the voltage yet.

My Fabia did this turned out the car needed a new battery. Go to skoda and get them to check it. I'm sure it's a battery issue

Cheers for that.

The charger will stop charging once the battery voltage stops increasing. This won't give a clue as to whether the battery itself is any good. If it's the original battery suggest you remove the electrolyte caps and admire the black soot everywhere inside and the complete absence of any water. Topping it up won't help here as the battery will be knackered from being run dry. Being stood for 6 months is a sure-fire way to bring up a battery issue - unless the battery is kept in a charged state.
