Confirming steps to fix scratches

Featured Replies

I bought a kit from scratch doctor that comes with a vial of undercoat, colour and clearcoat each. Just wanted to be sure of which order to attack the various scratches on my car...

I've already clayed it and applied turtle wax colour back metallic...havent waxed it since doing it last week though. Shall I use Megs scratch x first on the non-nail-deep scratches first, then tackle the nail deep ones? Should I wax the whole car first before prepping the scratched areas or just leave the waxing till all the scratched areas are sorted?

If I'm careful with applying thin layers of paint, can I avoid the need of a machine sander? Or is it advisable to have a powertool when fixing the paint? Or should I wait till I get a Kestrel DA as someone else advised on one of my other threads?

Can I use the same scratch doctor paint on scuffs on plastics (bumper & wing mirrors), or does that use a different type of paint to the body?

On another note, there are two hazy areas on the roof which look like they had bird bombs left on it for too long...if it's the alkali that tarnished the paintwork in those areas, will some elbow grease and polish get rid of them?

Touch up paint on the bumper keeps blobbing up...doesn't go on as smoothly as on the body. Am I missing a step? Cleaned with isopropyl, sanded black plastic exposed part with 3000 grit and using a size 0 paintbrush...

I've layered up on the body scratches...how long should I let it cure before wetsanding it flat? Does the clearcoat go on after that? And when should I run the silverline polisher with Megs UC?
