Tinkering with VCDS

Featured Replies

Borrowed a cable off a colleague and carried out a few adaptations: One press for alldoors unlocked, auto locking on, alarm/central locking chirp activated and the best but most useless feature for the child within....needle sweep (staging), when the ignition is turned on. Pimp my ride! Looking to enable CH/LH lights but didn't manage it. Any suggestions? Cheers

Good work.

For LH/CH I *think* it's availability to the correct part of the module that's preventing this at the moment. As Ross-Tech do a bit more development it could well become available.

I did wonder later whether it was worth downloading the beta version that's available on the Ross Tech site. It looks like it's worth a look

Could be worth a go. I did notice that in between the current release and the one before, some extra bits did become available/accessible on the Fab Mk2.

As I hooked up to a Mk2 at a meet one month, and then the month later, on the later version, some more bits were available emoticon-0148-yes.gif

It's also worth asking a question in the VCDS section about this, as Ross-Tech staff are active in there

Most definitely yes .

Ross-Tech are always playing catch up and most newly coded controllers will be address in the Beta software before it makes it way into the stable one.

I recently scanned a pretty new (11 plate) car in which VCDS was "Unable to find a ROD file" so I e-mailed Ross-Tech a copy of the debug/log report (Autoscan), they informed me that the ROD file would be included in the next Beta software due out shortly

Pardon my ignorance but what is CH/LH lights

Pardon my ignorance but what is CH/LH lights

Coming home lights (the headlights stay on for a while after locking the car) Leaving home lights ( the headlights come on when you remote unlock)

The other item I changed was the comfort indicator flashes. The standard is set to 3 which is not enough and I changed it to 5 - perfect! Now it's enough for an overtake or lane change, well worth it.

I never even knew this was a variable in VCDS,

Any idea what it is listed under?

Pretty sure it is under 09 central elec

If my memory serves me correctly it can also be adjusted through the maxidot (if fitted).

Hi ive maxi-dot on my elegance, been to my garage dealer they said staging and alarm pinging is not on the fabia?, so is there anyone with a list of all the the stuff you can get with maxi-dot and is there anyone local to gwynedd area with the tools

List of changes available would be great

is this really on the fabias maxidot?

No it's not in the maxidot. When VCDS is connected and looking into the coding there are two of the bytes that are relevant to this. One is to have the LH/CH on or off and the other is whether to use fogs or dipped headlights. I suspect the problem is either that a third item in coding needs identifying and enabling (vcds software versions are being updated all the time so new items appear in the coding helper ) or some further hardware is required. (On Octavias that have auto headlights it works in conjunction with the ambient light sensor so it doesn't activate in daylight but I believe it can be enabled with vcds to operate without. I think I read that 3 items need to be enabled to make it work so maybe it is the first option)

The number of items that appear in vcds that seem to available to change is quite extensive. The ones I remember and are worth considering are:

Staging ( in instruments) (just for fun)

Comfort indicators

Teardrop wiping

Audible indication of central locking (only if you have the OEM alarm)

Fogs as turning lights (I didn't try this)

CH/LH lights (couldn't get it to work)

Interior lights operating on boot open

Auto locking/unlocking

Driver's door unlock on first blip / one blip to open all

@ Wardy - My car can be made available at any point to have a tinker ;)

Hi guys,

I am due to get my VRS sometime before the end of the year (currently build week 47), and i am very interested in all this VCDS tech that people have.

My question is........

I am not particularly tech minded with car electronics but love a tinker as i think we all do, so how easy is the software to use? can anyone do it? and what are the chances of me causing any harm to the car?

I think that for £300 odd it would be worth having at some point as i intend to keep the car long term, but i don't want to waste money if i'm going to make a prat of myself messing stuff up.

Any reviews of how easy VCDS is to use would be most welcome.

Cheers!

That's a difficult question to answer without knowing your computer abilities and your sensibility!

Yes it is possible to make your car a glorified drive ornament with VCDS - however providing you are sensible with it and do your research before you start (not to mention saving an autoscan of the car) then this is unlikely to happen.

Just like a gun is perfectly safe. It's the idiot on the end of it that makes it dangerous :giggle:

Thought you might have been at the NW meet this month - could have connected up then and checked if anything else has appeared :)

Gearbox all sorted now?

I've been pokeing around abit and can't seem to change the steeringwheels functions...

Really bad since I find it way to smooth... I want abit more resistance really =/.

Hopefully ross-tech will find all the goodie-bits beneath the hood and unlock all the fun stuff!
