Painting your intake manifold cover

Featured Replies

If anyone has ever felt the desire to paint the main plastic intake manifold cover, what type of paint, and/or primer combinations have you used to get a long-lasting finish?

Any SENSIBLE assistance gratefully received

Pictures would be even better,if you have any :)

I see you have had another brainwave then ;)

Normal paint and a high temp lacquer Bry, or something like Hammerite's High Heat range, which doesn't require primer and is rated to 600 degC.

Something like this - not sure how it will be on plastic though, probably more suited to metal applications.

Mike - whatever gave you the idea I'd want gold?

Cheers Steve - the majority seem to suggest they are suitable for metal, so I wondered whether a plastic primer might be required, and whether it would be sufficiently heat resistant

Might just try this and see how it goes http://www.my-tool-shed.co.uk/p26839/Plastikote_Metallic_Gold_400_ml_620/452/product_info.html

I've never felt the need, but know a bit about painting plastics.

I'd suggest you want to wash it with a degreasing agent (about 1tsp of good quality washing up liquid in a gallon of warm water works well).

Now paint it with a plastic primer, and then an acrylic paint. Paints for polycarbonate are particularly good at the "being flexible" requirement, but dry matt, so will probably need clear laquer.
