Radio Code for Skoda Octavia

Featured Replies

Hi there,

I´ve bought a skoda octavia 1.9 TDI Elegance (reg56),last year but the radio wasn´t working.

Meanwhile I bought an used one (skoda stream MP3) on ebay, but doesn´t have a code. I couldn´t get the chassis n. from previous car.

Any idea if I can get code with radio´s serial n.? Otherwise what should I do?

Thanks in advance

ZeLuis

From what I've read on this forum and others, is that you need to have the stereo plugged into the correct chassis / vehicle so that a dealer / VCDS owner can read the code.

As you obviously have one removed before the code was read and cannot get it back in the vehicle, I believe you are stuck.

I'm no expert though and may be wrong, but would be interested in a definitive answer as I am about to remove my Stream MP3 stereo and sell it on.

Take a look at this article on Briskoda which may help a little more.

I've only had a quick read of the other thread but it's wrong.

Skoda don't keep a record of what headunit is fitted to what. We connect the car up and get the serial code off the radio (if possible, some we have to remove). That is entered in to ELSA with the chassis number and the code is given to us for that headunit. I believe the code is worked out from the serial number, it's some mathmatical equation.

So as long as the headunit is in a car you get your code.

If we fit a new headunit that's how we get the new units code and Skoda aren't informed of anything so there can't be a record.

Interesting.

If I read your post correctly, a Skoda dealer or someone with VCDS (I guess?) can get the code of any Skoda stereo as long as it is fitted to any Skoda vehicle?

Most stereos are sold with a 4-digit code on a card. Is this card & code therefore not necessary?

Basically Zeluis can plug the new stereo in, go see a dealer, spend c.£30 and drive away with a working stereo?
