Key fob battery

Featured Replies

Saw a horror story in the papers at the weekend about someone who had replaced the battery in their keyfob (not sure which car) only to realise that he had to pay out £120 to have the fob re-coded as the when the battery died, it lost the information.

Made me wonder about if I should replace the batteries now, and for that matter whether or not the Skoda keys do retain their info when the batteries die?

Does anyone know? Thanks.

I was amazed to find that keyfob battery replacement was not in the vehicle service schedule - until I read the rest of the book and found what total gibberish it is.

To keep ahead of the all too numerous B5.5 design faults, I changed my fob batteries (obviously checking the first before changing the second). There are no recoding problems and the job is entirely straightforward. As a precaution, I had the replacement battery ready to fit immediately.

The B5.5 fob takes one cell type CR 2032. Buy a known brand with a long expiry date.

Just a little follow up on this...

Do the batteries recharge while the key is in the ignition? I understand that batteries can only go through so many recharge cycles before they eventually die.

Is this right?

Cheers,

Rob

Thanks ... have just ordered up a couple of Duracells. After almost 6 years, I figure it's probably a good thing to do.

The VAG keyfob cells are non rechargeable.

Cheers Roto...

New batteries on the way.

My wife managed to get the Octavia immobiliser out of sync when the key battery went low, basically she pressed the button too many times / for too long. After replacing battery the key still would not open the door, so I decided to play a litlle.

I first opened the doors by pressing the button on the working key, switched the ignition on and then tried the buttons on the dead key again. Hey presto, the key closed the doors and both keys worked fine since then. Hope this helps anyone who is having trouble with the key after replacing battery.
