Noises and water in the boot

Featured Replies

hello all, done a long search on the site for the following problems, but i know nowt about cars so have probably passed over the answers without noticing...

1. i've read all about, and noticed the drip of water that runs of me octavia hatch and into the boot, the problem i've got, on top of that is that there is a serious amount of water building up under the CD changer. I can't locate where the water is coming from, there is no sign of any leaks anywhere else.

2. this is probably really thick of me but there are 2 sounds from my engine i know nowt about, the first is a constant, regular clicking sound when in 3rd and often in 4th gear. the second sound is like a pssst sound when i put me foot on the gas. probably totally normal but it's me first car, had it 3 weeks and i know bugger all about it- trying hard to find stuff out!

oh aye, i love me skoda

Could the water be being caused by condensation? Other than that, possibly worth checking the seals around the boots and rear light clusters...if you dust round them with a bit of talc, next time there's any water ingress then the pattern in the talc should show where the problem is.

Not sure on the engine noises - which Octy is it?

octavia 1.9 tdi, must try that with the talc

I don't know a whole lot about the 1.9Tdi...only "psst" sound it should make when you put your foot down is the turbo... :rubchin:

Anything other than that, I'd think it could be a loose hose or something.

If you've only had the car three weeks, it should be under some warranty or other if you bought it from a main dealer - could be an idea to get them to sort it!

got it booked in for next monday, don't want to look like a total numpty when they start telling me what's going on with it or asking questions like the one i just asked about the psst sound  makes sense that it's the turbo, the most powerful car i've driven up till now was a 1.1 micra!

do you have a rear wash wiper the hose came loose on mine putting water into the boot when i pressed the rear washer !!!

The turbo should make a kind of whistling psst...if it's more of an "air-escaping" psst then there could be something amiss.

Actually...as a thought about the water in the boot - is yours a hatchback? If so, when you operate the rear wash-wipe, does it actually squirt water, or do you just get the motor noise? If the latter, it's possible that with the current cold weather there has been a "freeze" in the screenwash pipe...when some pressure is applied in the form of the wash wipe, this can push the pipe off it's connection. Hence if the block has since disappeared, it will be squirting water down the inside of the plastic trim on the back of the boot. Easy job to fix it if this is the case...but worth getting the dealer to do it all that same... ;)

Edited to add: Doh, beaten to it!

Behind the carpet that the changer sits in front of there is a push on connection for the rear wash wipe, I suspect its come off. Blob of superglue on the end of it (but not in the hole) before you snap it back together should stop it coming off again.

Me too - Octavia Estate.

Leaked once into CD-Changer "well". Told them to change CD changer too becuase it started to play up.

Leaked second time from boot lid, from where the jet is, through plastic trim and into boot.
