Do you want to remove all the towbar features? If so bumper off, remove the towbar-crashbar and fit a standard crashbar. Normally when a towbar is fitted the crashbar behind the bumper is changed.

Or do you just want to remove the towbar electric socket?

These pictures might help. The red circled nuts are the standard attachment for normal crash bar.

i always find an angle grinder can help in these kind of situations....could be a careful chop could remove the extended part without having to buy/change the crash bar

If taking the angle grinder approach, watch out for sparks marking the paintwork.

yup, cut pointing up so the sparks go down if that makes sense

Take bumper off tow bar held on by 4 bolts easy as that

bet i could do it quicker with my friendly grinder ;)

being serious, i take it the crash bar doesnt need to be changed then as suggested,

that would save some time and money!

Damn if you was in the uk you could of swapped it with mine i'm after one :(

Just tell the misses you are popping out for a quick drive and then go over to Finland - you could be there and back in 2 1/2 days

That make sense B)

Well, if i understand right, i take the bumper off, and then the hole towbar features can be taked off by 4bolts?

I dont want to buy new crashbar or use a frendly grinder.. :S

A standard crashbar is held on by 6 bolts, as circled in red in the the image below. A towbar capable crashbar slots down the side of the car towards the wheel arches.

You will note that the towbar-crash bar is straight (or at least mine is), where as the factory fit crashbar is curved - see image below.

You have several options:

  • Leave it as it is
  • Remove the bumper, and change the crashbar for a non-towbar one
  • Remove the bumper and angle grind off the mounting points for the detactable swan-neck attachment

I had an aftermarkert ( I'm guessing) towbar fitted to mine. They cut into the bumper to fit it. Don't know whether to take mine off or not.

Pretty sure that most towbars would require some cutting of the bumper, although it should only be on the underside, and thus not really visible unless you're really looking for it.

Buy him a standard crash bar and ship it to Finland, he returns the towbar to you. Simples!

If you look at mine you can see it quite clearly. They cut a fair bit into the bumper.

Mines coming off soon, you can have it, if you want it.

What sort is it m8? I'm after one that doesn't leave a massive hole in the bumper when you unbolt the neck, and where abouts are you? :)
