OK I give in - what are the cold start diagnosis for dipped beam on a new octy.

Can find no ref. to this any were.

As said in my previous post, I have left the system fully operational, nothing switched off, and because the car is coded elsewhere for xenons without shutters, the HID kit in mine does not trigger any bulb failure.

Thanks Mike for that detailed explanation.

What is the position on my Octy 2 without any xenon's and shutters ,

Do I have the selection possibility to switch on/off the cold diagnostics , don't think I have seen

any thing like this in maxidot.

The option for selecting xenons with and without shutters, and for switching on/off the cold lamp diagnositcs is purely in VCDS, and needs the car plugging in to a laptop and VCDS software. It can't be done via maxidot.

As your car has not got xenons, the option boxes for these will be unchecked. All it needs is plugging in, opening the relevant controller, and checking the tick box that appears on the laptop screen.

Basically all you're telling the car is that the headlights have been changed to run on bulbs of 35W instead of 55W. If the car knows that the bulbs are now of reduced voltage, all should be OK. The problems occur when you install HID bulbs at 35W, and the car is looking for 55W halogens. It will then think the bulbs have failed, and throw the bulb failure light on. By telling it there are xenons without shutters installed, this problem is eliminated.

Thanks again Mike

Why can't every one give a clean cut answer like this one.

Appreciate your time .
