2nd MAF gone in 3 weeks, really?

Featured Replies

Hi,

Im fairly new on here so not sure what to expect really, have heard people are very friendly and helpful, so thought this may be worth a bash :)

Had my vrs for 4-5 months now, and about 3 weeks ago after it slowly started getting smokier and down a little on power the emissions lamp came on, a helpfull friend vagcommed it for me and read the fault of implausable signal from MAF. I purchased a new one from skoda, and installed it, car ran fine and quick again for a week or so, then the smoke started to come back again, and finally 3 weeks later the light has come on yet again, with the same fault code. It smokes just as much now as it did before the old MAF was replaced. It seems very down on power, struggles past 110 mph and seems less economical than ever. It has a pipercross induction kit on it, specifically for the vrs, this hasn't caused a problem in the 40,000 miles that my friend, the previous owner, had it.

Can MAF's go due to boost leak?

Thanks for the help.

When was the filter last cleaned and oiled?? How much oil was used?

Filter was cleaned maybe 2 weeks after i bought it, maybe 3 months ago ish, and not to much oil was used, just enough to cover it, its was dry to touch after a couple of hours.

thanks for the quick response :)

Could be worth dropping the original filter back in and seeing how you go with a new maf as the oiling can be known to cause issues
