VAG COM functionality

Featured Replies

Is the VAG COM a complete alternative to the VAG 1551 and VAG 1552 electronic interrogators? Reason for asking is I have been advised not to let anyone without a 1551/2 service my car.

Who advised that? Someone with VAG 1551 or 1552 by any chance?

I would happily let someone with VAG COM service mine, in fact mine will be serviced by a mate, and i will be using my VAG COM to check and reset anything.

No, no one in the trade.

BTW1 can you answer the question?

BTW2 don't you trust your mate?

From Ross-Tech's site:

VAG-COM is the first aftermarket diagnostic tool that:

Is fully compatible with the latest models which require a direct CAN connection for diagnostics.

Has a database of more than 7000 fault-codes and measuring-block texts.

Can use the new 7-Digit PIN/SKC codes to match new keys in all immobilizer equipped VW/Audi/Seat/Skoda models.

Allows you to view, log, and graph 3 groups of Measuring Blocks at once.

Can access all control modules which require proprietary VAG modes running the new KWP-2000 protocols (2001+ Teves Mk.60 ABS, numerous 2002+ modules)

Can display critical timing information on TDI engines in graphic form

I believe that it will do everything the VAG1551/2 does and even more - depending on which interface (lead) you use with the software. Have a look at Ross-Tech's site for more info.

1) I am no expert on VAG service equipment so can't say if it does anything slightly differant to VAG COM. So i wouldn't want to misinform you.

2) I trust my mate to service it, but the VAG COM gear is mine so i'll use it to do anything i need to.

Thanks for your helpful reply Denis. I had come across this page on Ross-Tech but was not quite sure how to interpret it because of the emphasis on CAN connection at the start, my car not being a CAN bus model
