Thinking about moving to FSD's from KW V1's

Featured Replies

I've been running around on the variant 1's for a few thousand miles now and while I do like them, especially the way the car sits, I'm thinking about going for koni FSD's and lowering springs.

When I'm having fun I love the handling with KW's, but some of the country lanes I drive down when at work are less than fun!

Am I likely to be disappointed with the handling after running about on the KW's ?

not imo...

Do you run FSD's? If so, with what springs please?

Cheers.

I think you will find fsd kits have been calibrated and balanced to a perfessional standard out the box. In theory the tuning of the suspension should be excellent, usually with a good compromise between ride, comfort and of course performance! Coilovers are all well and good, but unless time is spent really setting the car up, and setting up them to your driving style there abit wasted in my eyes. As most people use them to just deck there car! If thats what your looking at doing then there perfect. I think most people assume as well that the car is very very low it will strait away become a better handling car, sadly its just not that simple.

Depending on how you have your KW V1's set up, I would hazard a guess that a fixed suspension kit will feel alot better, espically ones like eibach, H&R and Blitstein

It's not decked like some of the cars on here, but it's definitely lower than with lowering springs. Thing is, I do like the lowered look, but I understand that you can only drop the car by a modest amount if running FSD's or they don't work properly. They're supposed to give a really comfortable ride in normal driving, which I have to say is very appealing!

Think I'm getting too old!

Put it this way mate im 22, I certainly dont consider it being a downgrade looking at a pre fixed and balanced set up, if I had the time to optomise the coilover set up and if I did alot of track work then I would go down that route.

Think my problem is I'm 42 going on 17!

It's about time I stopped buggering about with cars really....

The other thing is, my vrs is relatively unmolested, it was one owner before me, never crashed or repaired and in great condition. I'm also thinking keeping it relatively standard looking, but with some mods under the bonnet might be quite good fun!

Iv got v1's and have recently had to do a bit of back road commuting. They have been great, just avoid any pot holes. Much more planted than other setups and not overly firm, defiantly better than my old eibatchs. Iv said before how amazed I am with people's opinions of FSD's on here, I only ever hear them being called f-ing 5h1t dampers everywhere else lol

At my current mileage rates I'll be doing about 20k miles a year, a lot of which is Devon, somerset and gloucestershire back roads, they ain't pretty!

On some of them there's more pothole than road!

I don't ever go on the track either, so ultimate flat out performance isn't a massive priority, but I don't want canal boat handling either!

I suppose I could Try adjusting the V1's and try raising the car a bit to see if that helps?

I would recommend a full eibach damper and spring kit. All black so will look oem, the ride height drop is an extra 25mm bare in mind the fabia is already 15mm lower so a total of 40mm very respectful. And some form of anti roll bar. This is a set up that I will be looking at doing but with a few extra bits and bobs. Alot of people comment on how the ride height looks standard, the ride it self feels better than standard. And only when pushed on some terrible roads does it come apparent that you have an uprated setup. Of course b road blasts will be 100X better to

-30mm eibachs..

Cheers, just looked at your pic's and I'd be quite happy at that ride height, how comfortable is it with the fsd's and eibachs on poor roads but 'normal' driving, and is it a smooth ride on motorways?

Cheers.
