Octavia vRS gearbox problems

Featured Replies

Does anyone know of any gearbox problems with Octy vrS's?

I bought a 53 plate 4 days ago and the gearbox doesnt seem as smooth as it maybe should be. It seems to happen when you shift from 2nd to 3rd at 3000 revs and above.

Has anyone heard of problems with the synchros in these gearboxes?

Its still underwarranty so could get it checked out

Had the syncros on mine replaced under warranty at 125,000 miles. Main ones were in to 2nd and in to 5th

mine doesnt like changing from 2nd to 3rd quite often and on the odd occasion i have crunched the gear alittle...

i was going to ask the dealer to change the gear box oil when its in for its 20K service and see if that improves things. i sometimes have trouble getting 1st after stopping at traffic lights or something and reverse doesnt always want to engage... you know now i've typed it all out i reckon my gear box is a duff ...lol

I had a problem with my old black REAL vRS, it used to destroy gearboxes when I changed from 1st to 2nd.

Mind you I think the 75bhp shot of Nos had a hand in it. :D

Well, now that I have read your reply I'd reckon you have bigger problems than me.............lol

I think the synchros are not in too good a shape which is a bit rubbish as its only done 11,500mls. Im going to phone a dealer at the weekend and see what they say

let us know how you get on.

Well, the jury is still out. It seems to be temperamental, either that or I was the one with problems............lol, new car worries, etc. Im going to give it another couple of weeks and see, although, I must admit the shift isnt as smooth as I'd hoped.

Will keep you all posted - may take it to a garage to let them have a look at it (if the problem persists)

Apart from this initial worry im well pleased with the car - great fun for the money, and everyone at work who slagged me off for buying one are now eating their words - managed to scare the living sh!t out of my boss too (and me if the true be known) with some very late braking into a roundabout.........lol
