Octavia SDI Gear linkage

Featured Replies

Hello everyone I joined the other day and this is my first post.I bought an SDI Octavia last week. It was a pig to get into 1st gear I thought the box was gone. I asked a local mechanic what he thought he said he would need a morning to examine it (€50.00) an hour! The car has rod linkages not cables I looked at it myself (free) and then put it in 4th gear and loosened the pinch bolt on the selector rod. I moved the gear handle about 15 degrees to the right and had my assistant (The missus) hold it whilst I tightened the pinch bolt. Result it selects all gears easily and I think the box is fine. Maybe this will be of help to someone?

A very warm welcome to Briskoda.

Thanks for the tip, the same may well apply to the Octavia mark 2

If you have any technical queries relating to your car, you will probably get more relevant responses if you post them in the Octavia mark 1 forum.

Hi Mike

thanks for the reply I'm new to Skoda for the last several years I have been spending all my weekends and money on Passat suspension and sump changes :) The Skoda dealers in Ireland seem to be some kind of bandits (same as VW)

:)
