need help with 2.5 V6 TDi

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've got 2.5 v6 tdi Skoda Superb Auto

i knew it would drink a bit more then my previous cars 1.9tdiVW or 2.2dti.vectra but need help to get more economy out of it

my plan is.....:

1. Pipercross panel filter

2. Air box mod : get rid of plastic restriction at the bottom of the box and drill few extra holes to get more air in

3. New oil and filter service (5w-30 fully syn)

4. De-cat

5. Lowering springs to bring it down for aerodynamics

6. front Laguna splitter for aerodynamics

7. remap or chip-box (not sure which one)

..

if there is any thing special that i have to do please let me know cos i like the motor and wish to keep it for a long time (may be)

Sell it would be my advice, a 2.5 auto is never going to be anything but thirsty in my opinion.

one guy from audi-sport forum told me that with re-map in town in traffic he gets 30mpg from his Audi with 2.5 v6 tdi quattro

so it gets me thinking what else can i do to get it running closer to 30mpg as poss. its showing only 20mpg on the dash comp.-screen

The big downside is the auto box. I get between 40 to 46 mpg on my 23 mile commute across Cheshire out of my 2.5TDi manual. On the motorway commuting to Surrey weekly for about 18 months I was getting between 48 and 52 mpg at a steady ~70 mph on cruise control with the air con turned off.

all i wish for is close to 30MPG as possible for around town drive

i don't wonna give up on this car yet , i just bought it 3 weeks ago

What is the mileage on your car? If 70k+ then get a VAG specialist to change your auto box oil and change the filter in it too. Should be done every 80k miles.

On a run I get 48 mpg out of my auto when driven sensibly up to 75mph.

On the autobahn at 90-110 mph I average 41-43 mpg.

It is in my opinion a very economical and comfy high speed cruiser but around town it will never be economical. But as I only do a few 100 miles around town every year, for me the 25 mpg I get is of no consequence.

Something that will also help your fuel economy are eco tyres, when the car needs some new ones get some Pirelli Cinturato P7 in 225/45R17 size. They were voted best tyres in that size by German ADAC, for fuel economy, wear, noise and traction in dry and wet. I have 4 of them on my car.

But if mpg is really important for you, you should have gone for the 1.9.

my one is 85k on the clocks

i will look in to oil change for the auto-box but

i had enough of 4 cylinder clunking noise

Funny, my 1.9 doesn't have any clunking noise.
