Fabia speakers frequency response

Featured Replies

Just wondering if anyone knows the frequency response of the Fabia's standard speakers, most particularly the low cut-off point frequency.

I notice that the headunit I've just bought has subwoofer level and high pass filter setting, to prevent the speakers playing the same frequency as the sub, and vice versa, which is obviously desirable from a sound quality point of view.

The headunit has 50 Hz, 80 Hz and 125 Hz settings. Obviously I'd guess that using the lowest possible setting will result in the highest sound quality, as up until a point, bass is a directional sound, the lower you go the less directional it sounds.

At the moment, I find the sound quite good, but the bass is a bit boomy, and clearly it needs some tweaking.

What sub are you running?

To be honest I'd set the high pass filter at the upper setting no matter what the quoted frquency range of the standard speakers.

So you would use 125 Hz?

I've actually gone back to my car just before, and discovered that the HPF was turned off - no wonder it sounded boomy!!!!

The subwoofer is a Blaupunkt CMS 266 - 8" driver - 140 watt amplifier.

I've just turned the 80 Hz HPF on and the improvement was noticable right away, all the boomyness is gone and sub is more subtle now just like it should be.

One thing I wish I'd asked for when I got the kit fitted was sound deadening for the doors though :(

Hmm , on a small sub perhaps 80 is the better choice. A bit of testing should find the one that sounds best.

Can't remember for certain what I have mine set to (both HPF and LPF the same) but I'm pretty sure its 125 for my JBL 10" sub and 17cm Kenwood components

I have my rainbow components / genesis audiophile 12 inch sub set up with an 80Hz crossover. Sounds gorgeous, although I'm lacking some mid bass. But that'll be my fibreglass pods which need tuning  :(

Just to make matters even more confusing, the subwoofer itself appears to have a crossover according to the instructions, but when I looked I couldnt find it.

I havent had the chance to listen much to it since I enabled HPF, but early impressions are good, but it does clearly seem to make my doors rattle on some dance tunes. But thats better than the boomy, muddy mess that I had before. It was fun at first, but being a recovering audiophile, I couldnt help but draw comparisons between it and my home hifi ;)

Just drove home from work. That HPF setting has made a huge difference, far better now. Bass has definition, and is fast and punchy, the subwoofer is unobtrusive like it should be, but at the same time, gives the sound extra authority and depth, and the sound is very lively and clear without tons of bass muddying it up. Much more what I expected! :)
