Simple as that. No user manual in the car, and I tried to take them off last night. No way, they stopped in the upper position. I'm sure there is something sneaky there, but where? Because I do have to remove those to get the estate floor flat, right?

There should be a button at the base of the headrest/top of the back seat where the headrests fit into. Press that in and it should release the headrest.

OK, thanks! I looked for it but didn't find it. Probably because there are seat covers (the original seats were pretty dirty). I'll look harder.

Pull the headrests up (tip the seat forward), and when it reaches maximum travel press in the button/clip in the top of the seat where the headrest "prongs" come out from. You might need to give it a bit of a wiggle to get it out. Oooohhh-eerrrr
