Drive/cambelt

Featured Replies

Hi all!

A monotonous question I'm sure, but am I right in thinking that I should have the cambelt changed every 4 years on my 2007 petrol vrs?

If that's the case, think I've been misguided by my dealer. Car was serviced in march, which as far as I can tell makes the vehicle 4 years old.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Yup 4 years or 40k.

Get the water pump done as well. Should be around £350 at a dealer or indi. If not try VW as doing fixed price servicing/repairs which should be about the same ball park.

Thanks gadgetman.

Looks like there is something else that I need to be talking to my local skoda 'experts' about then.

Very unhappy with them so far.

As said 4yr or 6ok.

VAG is doing the belt and water pump for £400 fixed. They say it's for VWs but they'll do the deal for any VAG car.

My indy did the belt for about £350.

Thank you for advice which I accept to be 100% accurate, but can someone please tell me where it is written in the various hand books.

I have the service schedule in front of me as I write and I can see 'inspect condition and tension of ribbed v-belt' at 4 years/60000 km- is this the all important belt?. The only reference I can see to a 'toothed belt' is at 180000 km, and it says to change it.

I spoke to my local skoda dealer, who were quite patronising to say the least. Even though it was them who did the 4 year service on the car they stated it is my responsibility to have asked for the cambelt to be changed, yet I was advised by them to have the break-fluid changed as per the service schedule.

My car is now 6 months over-due a cambelt change, which they have kindly offered to carry out for £495. I had to walk away from the garage at that time.

Does this sort of thing happen regularly at skoda dealers, or only to me?!!!!

Have a great weekend all!

It's not written accurately in any of your paperwork. Your owners manual is out of date as soon as it's printed.

The only 100% right information is on ELSA which only the dealer has so I'd say it's 100% up to them to advise you that you need a cambelt at four years. It is also on their cambelt guidelines as published on Desktop. If they advise and you decline that's up to you, but if they don't notify you that's a failure on their part not yours

The interval for your cambelt according to Skoda is inspect at 55,000 miles and 18,000 miles thereafter and replace as required, or 4 years if that is sooner.

I'd complain to Skoda about them.

As for.prices, vw will do it for 400 as part of their fixed servicing, which should include water pump as well or so someone posted elsewhere.

If your getting the belt done remember to get the water pump changed at the same time. It doesn't add a great deal to the bill.
