Typically these 2 piece decats are designed to be universal which is why they have a reducing end on them. The problem is your std cat back system hooks up to the std cat using a olive and 2 bolts. So you will need the std system cut to remove that or bastadise your std downpipe/cat to take off the fitting and put to your new decat pipe. Either way you do it you will not be able to revert back to std for MOT unless you cut cat back system to take a sleeve to then clamp decat and then modify the std downpipe/cat to take the same sleeve to refit it come MOT time.

Like Billy did in this thread

http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/211693-2-piece-3-decat-questions/

You can see a pic of the decat downpipe and the other section connected to system via a sleeve.

Or find a friendly MOT station.

yeah the exhaust place said that the de-cat pipe even though goes down in stages was to big

the same size as the olive with the 2 bolts and wouldnt fit inside

so still had to pay as they had worked on it for ages

so going to try and get money back and the money i paid to try and have it fitted

as they said will fit right onto the car

They do a 150bhp 1.8T and 180bhp vRS, pretty sure the exhaust is the same though.

Well the 1.8t 20v is not the VRS as such in a number of ways as the 1.8t 20v is a generic term used for these engines that fit in a lot of the VAG group cars. Without confusing you though, it should not be a issue for this exhaust as they fit all the 1.8t 20v variants of the car listed including the VRS. I have the same exhaust. However i am not sure what the diameter is of the other variants like A3, Golf etc that may have a smaller cat back system that will allow the decat reducer to slide over it. All your exhaust garage needed to do was cut the olive off and get a slightly larger diameter sleeve that will fit on the end of the system and the end of the decat and clamp it together. Not hard really. But as stated you need to then deal with putting back to std come MOT time.

I seem to remember that the adds for these states fitting by professional is recommended, which kind of means it won't just fit tog tether easy.

I think you are very unlikely to get a refund for the garage work and i would read the add again to be 100% sure you did not miss anything. Plus the points i just listed also. Post the add up so we can see it...

Take it to a proper exhaust place ie powerflow or the likes they'll sort it.

Quick google search found these guys in your area http://www.google.co.uk/m/url?client=safari&ei=iBRhTvD4EYHKjAe_rrrFAg&hl=en&oe=UTF-8&q=http://www.tyresdudley.com/page/exhausts&ved=0CBQQFjAA&usg=AFQjCNESBX1pXHO8RKtkDwpRAENGX7odWQ

They specialise in custom exhausts.

thx for that trouble is £££ at the moment as not working just thought £90 + £30 for fitting wasnt bad for the gains you get from one

when talking £300-£500 for full system cant afford it at the moment

Give em a call dude you might be surprised, my local one charged me £50 or £60 to make my de cat so shouldn't be anymore for them to make just a sleeve up surely.

  • Author

ok will call them tomorrow and find out

can get a reducer off ebay 6" any size made to order but would be to long then

Just pay the moneys and get it fitted by a proper place, chalk it down to experience, that first place you tried sounded like it didn't have a clue or couldn't be bothered to do the job.

Best of luck avoiding those VOSA checkpoints!

Go see phill at power flow in Stafford. Just off junction 14. He will fit it and sort you out mate. He's an exhaust legend

Are you talking about this section

VRSCentreExhaustDrawing.jpg

Item number 10?

That is called a dual clip section

Skoda Part Number 357253141A

it is a 55mm diameter

At a guess and doing a bit of research possibly, the decat you bought would directly fit a octy,Audi,Seat,Golt 1.8t that has a smaller diameter pipe which explains Skoda P/N 191253141 for another section that is only 50mm.

If i were you i would contact this place.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Exhaust-Reducer-2-Way-Pipe-45mm-52mm-57mm-65mm-76mm-/220558094716?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item335a49717c

I have used this guy loads of times.

Get a deducer pipe or infact a equal lenth pipe that fits over the end of the centre section and the decat section.(think you stated the decat is same thickness as centre section right?) I would assume a 57mm 6" section is the way to go. Saw a few slits at each end to alow it to be clamped down with exhaust clamps and job done.

http://www.google.co.uk/m/place?cid=1274043620145244690&q=unique+exhausts+stafford&fb=1&gl=uk&hq=unique+exhausts&hnear=0x4870827f6d0b7d5f:0x1b47b3d511d85808,Stafford

Just book in and go see him.

He WILL sort you out at the best price around take my word for it.

Take a look here http://www.autovogue.com/

He does all their exhausts for them.

Much easier to let someone else worry about getting it to fit.

Don't think your first linked works? well would not for me..

Point is Lee wants to be able to remove easy for MOT time. The car in the second link pics you posted don't worry about that kind of stuff and looking at the cars the exhaust would cost the money of a VRS anyway.. :giggle:

just get a custom exhaust on stuff mot i know a friendly place where i take mine.

Unit 4, Saint Albans Road, Stafford ST16 3DT

01785 215 111

just popped that link up to show he knows what he's about that's all.

The way i see it have it welded up properly and come MOT time pop to him to have your standard cat fitted in the system then after MOT pop back and have it taken out again.

Phil at above company will probably charge around £40 each time to do it so say £80 per year to have it removed and re fitted thats approx 21p per day over the year lol.

will go and see him tomorrow

the place i took it to said the bracket that the cat pipe goes into is to small

but said you can open it up a bit by putting something into the end and hitting it

then it should fit

just have to get another bracket to fit the normal one on mot time

used to be a mot station by me that just walked behind the car if it didnt make him cough he passed it lol but hes gone now :(

Ring him before you go cause some days he isn't open as he gets flown out to oil riggs to weld under water or something like that.

'Hit it with a hammer' OH-MY-GOD!!!!

You sure they are an exhaust centre? lol

Phil has a very very very expensive machine that can stretch tube open to the given size!
