Having replaced an alloy wheel I finally have a proper spare I can carry around.

Skoda want something like £180 for the jack kit with the insert that slots inside the spare wheel.

I've been looking on ebay for replacements and am assuming the golf and a3 kits will also work? Are these kits a generic size?

Having purchased a full set of 16" winter wheels and tyres, I was thinking of using one of them as a spare (I have a VRS with no spare wheel kit). There are various jack kits on ebay but not a lot for post 2004 models, is there a difference, and what wheel size do the foam inserts fit into?

I've got a couple of 16" kits, one from a MK4 Golf, the other from a Toledo if they fit?

I don't think the kit has changed in between times, so there's no reason that I can see for why the Mk4 and Toledo kit shouldn't work.

Haven't seen or noticed a change in the jack design.

MK4 golf is alloy, the Toledo is steel, both braces are for 17mm bolts.
