Here's one for you. I need to find out the correct wheel size for my '02 plate 1.9 TDi Fabia Estate. Here's why...

When I bought the car back in 2006, I traded in our older Fabia (a W-plate 1.4 Classic Hatchback) at the time. That car had just been through a service and had 4 brand new tyres fitted only a month earlier. The tyres on the estate were just about bald, so I switched all 5 wheels between the vehicles and went off a happy man. That was then...

Now, 5 years down the line, and 112,000+ miles on the clock, the springs and dampers are beginning to soften with age and on wet roads she just doesn't corner at all without squirming and sliding across the road surface. I have a suspicion that the wheels are too narrow on the newer Fab, and wonder if I replaced them with wheels that the car was designed for, would it make any difference? (As a tangent, snow tyres in the winter on the narrow wheels work an absolute treat).

If any one can give me the correct size I'd be very grateful.

6J 14", though they could be 15". 185/60-14 tyres. Don't have an accident with the classic wheels and tyres on, I suspect your insurance co. will not be amused. I think the classic are 175/65-14 on 5.5Js

Thanks Pete - pretty sure you're right with the 6J 14" but just wanted to check. Off to hunt the scrapyards for a set.

I have a set of 4 - 14" x 6 steels, delivery mileage only prior to having alloys fitted on my 1.4 TDI MK1 Fabia, they have been stored in the cardboard boxes that the alloys came in. I also have the wheel trims, as new, if interested please email.
