Phil.B's Black Magic 04 Fabia vrs ** Track day at Oulton 10.11.13

Featured Replies

I've had my fabia a month or so now so i thought i'd become a freedom member and start getting a project thread going for it!

I sold my pride and joy, it was an imaculate flash red Ibiza Cupra R with 240bhp, sadly due to a new job and a 50 mile round trip I had to give her up. I thought getting a diesel would be boring, but I was definitely wrong after looking at the Vrs and what can be done with them!

This is how it looks as I bought it, and I know the wheels are a disgrace and I feel embarassed every where I drive! :peek: This will be changing verry soon though.

The first thing on my list was the interior though, the one thing I forgot to check was the rear doors and yes they were leaking! The first time it rained I was left with a horrible musty smell which then stayed with the car :( I think the lad that owned it before me was using an odour killer to mask it! Also the seats had become grubby and had horrible water marks all over them so it was time for a full interior detail!

I resealed the doors as per the guide on here which solved that problem but I was still left with the damp carpets etc. So I pulled out all the seats and was left with this.

img0604ao.jpg

It looked like a previous owner added to the smell with a dog to! Apart from the dog hairs it was pretty much what I expected for the first time the seats have probably ever been out. Now the seats were out it was time to pull the vax out :)

I vacumed the loose hairs and dirt etc, soaked the floor with Chemical Guys interior cleaner and scrubbed with a megs interior brush. After that using warm water in the vax I sucked out all the dirt and shampoo from the carpet which I did a good 3 times and probably more for the rear to make sure the musty smell wasn't coming back!

Now it was onto the seats which I did the same thing with. I took some before, and half way through pics.

This is what the water looked like after one round of sucking out the crap!

I also bought some VRS mats as the ones in it were knackered and I love the look of the standard mats.

Now for a couple of finished pics!

It took me a good day in the garden to do it but it was definitely worth it and so satisfying. :)

Sorry for so many pics I was finding it hard to leave any out

Next up was an impulse buy because my mate was selling it from his mk4 Ibiza.

A whiteline arb!

Ready to go on

and all fitted

img0643hm.jpg

Could feel a bit of difference when cornering but not a massive amount, hopefully will help once lowered to!

Next on my list was a new set of wheels asap! I wanted to go really euro with some LM reps or some splits but there was no way i could afford it! :( i've settled with some tt comps but i'm tempted to swap them for monoblocks when a set comes up!

I was going to strip and polish them but didnt think that was a good idea just before winter turning up. I'm in the process of just filing and sanding the kurbed lips in places before i get the tyres swapped with the ones on the horrible dotz then i will get them on!

Only got one quick pic of them.

img0658iy.jpg

Also went and got some service bits from Skoda an VW as its on 70k so will get a service done in the week if the weather brightens up!

The other plan that i want to sort out soon is suspension as i feel like i'm driving a tractor! Think i'll be getting some budget joms :)

Sorry if i've bored you all with all the pics :p

i hope thats not jacked on the rear axle? interior came up nice though and where did you get some new matts thought they were discontinued at skoda?

  • Author

Erm yep before I put it on the axel stands, I saw the sticker saying not to but just thought it was a health and safety thing, take it I shouldn't do that again then?

I don't think so because I got a quote from skoda but ended up buying them off eBay unused by someone so got them a bit cheaper!

  • Author

Just realised won't be doing that again because the arb is in the way now! :)

Car looks great, mind if I ask what you used for tidying up the interior, mines is in desperate need of a clean :D

Car looks nice and the seats came up really well. I recognise your username from seatcupra.net I had a mk3 ibiza cupra too, sold up a couple of weeks ago. Fabia vrs is a great little car.

sorry for the late reply, went to service it at the weekend only to find the sump thread was knackered :( i've taken the sump off and its hopefully getting repaired and put back on today! :)

Thanks! I sprayed the seats and carpet with Chemical guys interior cleaner, scrubbed them with a megs interior brush then wet vac'd the dirt out, firstly rinsing it with clean warm water then just sucking the rest out. It was bone dry the day after.

Your doesnt look too differant to my old car, mine was red but not an R, I had the Cupra R wheels in anthracite and also same Forge FMIC as you too. I have got a Skoda Fabia VRS but I havent bothered with a thread yet.I have done the PD160 air intake and Pipercross panel filter, Seat sport strut brace so far. Car was remapped by Jabbasport thanks to the previous owner of the car.

Big change in looks for the VRS, finally managed to get my comps on, my mate managed to get it on the ramps in his work and swap the tyres over for me. couldn't help taking a pic when they were both in the garage!

image3hj.jpg

Here's a quick pic with the comps on!

image5bn.jpg

I also did a service changing the oil, filter and pollen filter and will buy a Jetex panel filter to replace the standard one, i checked it and its pretty clean for now. :)

Next on the list is a set of JOM coileys asap!

I haven't updated this in a while so got loads of pics to add!

I got a snow foam gun for christmas so took the usual pic :p

image9o.jpg

I've now machine polished it and got rid of all the swirls that was making it look grey! Didn't really take many pics but here's one showing the difference.

image5ne.jpg

Whilst i was doing that i removed the side strips an rear fabia badge, the glue was a bit tricky to come off so used a caramel wheel.

The most important update... coilovers

image2bzw.jpg

Cleaned the rears while the arches liners had to come out.

image2ef.jpg

Bought shorter drop links because the arb was just sitting on the driveshaft.

image3em.jpg

image4jj.jpg

I've had them on about 2 months now and i think they are great!

I also got some Lamin x light tint, kind of wish i went for the darker one now :|

Here's a few pics with mine and my mates se after we cleaned them with today optimum no rinse seeing as i now live in a flat!

My next plan is to change my exhaust to a newer standard vrs one, mine is somehow dented on the side and the tip is a bit rusty. Also colour code the front grille and buy a new badge. :)

The JOMs are great for the money  My comps are powdercoated anthracite, don't you fancy an aftermarket exhaust?

  • Author

They look good in that colour on yours, mine are in the standard finish at the moment not sure what to do with them. The JOMs definitely are!

Afraid not :( I'm trying to keep my mods as budget as possible and I got a 07 vrs exhaust for £20! I'm not going for power in this just aesthetics. I'm saving for an ed30 golf gti :)

Needs a black colour coded grille desperately.

Cheers! I do miss it :(

did the rear arb and coliovers make much difference ?

The arb made a difference before the coilovers went on, its harder to notice it now with the coilovers to, but then i haven't had the arb on without coilovers on.

Nice! Definately need to colour code the grille :p

Finally got round to colour coding the grill!

I bought a new badge ages ago and have spent the last couple of weeks spraying the grill, leaving it plenty of time to cure between coats in the hope it won't chip on this first drive!

Took a couple of quick pics

I'm going to go out later on to take some better ones :)
