Hub nut thread and ANOTHER clunk!

Featured Replies

Morning all

Firstly can anyone tell me if the o/s/f hub nut is a standard or reverse thread? I'm guessing it will be reverse?

Secondly... I seem to have developed a bit of a clunk when accelerating after coasting/slowing. Car is a tdi tiptronic, my initial thought is an engine/gearbox mount but until I get to the bottom of my suspension problem, I can't rule that out. Has anyone come across anything similar? Otherwise the car drives very well.

Found the source of my suspension clunk! The lower rear arm ball joint has failed on the o/side again. I didn't even bother to check it initially as I changed the arms last year after it failed it's mot.

So these arms lasted 20k miles where as the fronts have done 230k and are still going strong. I guess I know what my answer will be when euro car parts ask me if I want the cheap arms or the better ones tomorrow....

Incidently I managed to get the track rod pinch bolts out with a ball joint seperator, cleaned them with a wire brush and put them back with plenty of copper slip... So I mow have fully de-seized suspension :)
