Music Autoplays on Columbus startup

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

New to this arena, so sorry if I am restarting an article that already exists.

In my 12 month old superb estate the music automatically starts when I turn the car on or switch the columbus system on. For example, I listen to my music quite loud on my way to pick my daughter up from school and pause it as I get close. When I get back in the car, after going to collect her, the player starts again and my daughter, and I, jumps out of our skins because the music comes on at the original volume or close to it.

I've tried turning the volume down to mute which pauses the music, but it still starts playing when I start the car again. At least it is quiet this time.

Still, it seems preposterous that if you switch the music off (radio or whatever format) when you get back in the car it decides that I actually want to start listening to music again.

Am I the only one that has this problem? I've browsed the net and looked handbook to find a way to switch it off. I've also looked through all the menus on the columbus system itself, but to no avail.

Any advice?

Regards,

A

PS The Columbus system is the first system I actually had to get the book out to understand how a few areas work. It is so badly designed and unintuitive. I'm guessing it's German in design which could explain a lot.

You can set the initial volume in the system, so that when you power up it will only be as loud as you set that. I think it is under Setup and Volume.

You could also turn it off altogether by pressing the volume button, then it will not come on with the car.

I leave my music on all of the time, I just switch off the ignition and regardless of the volume I had it set to, it always comes back on at the pre-set volume. I note you say that you "pause" your music... maybe that makes a difference. Try it by just switching off with the ignition.

Yes, I can switch the whole thing off, but I like to have the nav on and ready in case there are traffic problems ahead: I can quickly check the map for an alternative route. Sometimes it takes quite a few seconds to start-up when it is not switched on and those seconds could make a difference between being stuck on the M25 or going off at a junction.

I've had a look in Tone > startup volume and you can set the volume to a minimum. I didn't need to change mine as it was on min already, but it still comes on when I restart the car/system although very quietly.

So it seems that if you want to turn the system on, even if it's just for sat nav, one MUST obviously also wants to listen to music. It's a bit w*nk, especially as I've never had this problem in my previous cars with sat nav; if one switches the music off, it stays off until I decide I want it back on again. Poor design.

Anyway, thanks for your help guys. I guess I'll have to keep switching it off each time I get in the car.
