Front suspension advice occy vrs

Featured Replies

My next job om my mk1 occy vrs is to polybush the front end. Im thinking of getting a set of wishbones and subframe from my local breakers and painting them black. I then plan to poly bush the wishbones, new drop links, new track rod ends, TT rack, r32 ARB then fit the whole thing to my car to save rushing the job(dont have a garage). Would

It be advisable to fit new subframe bushes? Or they a p.i.t.a to do? I have read a RARB is req with the r32 ARB but could i leave it till i can afford a RARB? Without too many issues? Will standard occy track rod ends fit the TT rack? Or woukd i need TT ones? Thanks

subframe bushes are a bit of a pain to do, def worth buying a setup refurbing then replacing yours and selling on.

get tt wishbones too with castor adjustment, compliments the tt subframe/rack and arb setup.

you should really have at least a 25mm rear arb with the 23mm front arb otherwise you will promote understeer

standard tt track rod ends fit upside down iirc.

I have already bought the Superpro bushes for the occy wishbones :( I was just wanting to get the front ARB on while im doing the rest but havent got enough pennies for RARB :giggle: Could I use occy track rod ends or would i need to use TT ones and put them the other way up?

Question:

I've been told today that OE R32 front wishbone bushes are preferable to Superpro given the usual range of motion that they undertake.

Thoughts?

Well don't agree with that based on std OEM bushes being naff.

If you are upgrading to a R32 FARB then the need to get decent poly bushes is a wise choice.

I have a R32 FARB and super pro bushes and they are great.

But what if you're not upgrading the FARB?

My wishbone bushes are in dire need of replacement and I'm not keen to spend a fortune as I have a miles long list of other things that need doing.

The explanation I was given was that the R32 ones are way more robust than the standard ones, but that the Superpro ones are a little too solid/stiff. The guy saying this is quite happy to suggest Superpro in other locations, just not there. Does that make sense? Can anyone explain it better?

I wouldn't say my superpro equipped car feels too stiff...

Ok my previous post was referring to the R32 FARB bushes that if you are fitting a R32 FARB than one assumes you are performing a number of chassis mods to get best benefit from the R32 Bigger FARB and as such then fitting superpro bushes to the R32 FARB makes sense to do so. If not going to make further mods to chassis and or not fitting a RARB of at least 25mm then i would not fit a R32 FARB

However if you are referring to fitting R32 wishbone bushes over superpro wishbone bushes then yes that makes sense to do it. The R32 wishbone bushes are solid bushes like the Audi TT as opposed to voided Bushes (cut outs) in the VRS ones.

That is a good upgrade to your std wishbones and a cheaper option to superpro. It depends on what and where you are going to take you cars handling to. I had R32 wishbone bushes in for a few years before replacing the Front wishbones, Hubs, steering rack etc to R32/TT set up and then replaced all chassis bushes to Superpro

Thanks, that makes sense. I'm gonna go with R32 for now and then worry about it if I do anything else to the car in the future.
