EPC light on, should I drive?

Featured Replies

Driving in to work this morning I'd done about 2-3 miles and the engine management light came up on the dash.

The car didn't seem to drive any different and nothing happened during the rest of my journey (20 miles).

The service indicator has also just come on and the car is due a 20K service for which it is booked in for later this week.

Should I keep driving the car in the interim? Difficult to say I know, but are these two things likely to be related, or

something completely different?

Cheers

Wayne

It might help if you tell us what car you have, your profile says you have a Pug 107, so if that is the case you are in the wrong place :dull:

If the engine management light has come on, then something probably isn't quite right with the car, thus I would suggest getting the fault code reads as a starting point, or you could ignore it and hope for the best.

When my car is due a service, I just get the service reminder and no management warning light.

Sorry! Stating the car probably helps a bit... :giggle:

Its a mk 1 vRS, 2002 with 75k on the clock.

It has been driving a little hesitantly recently, like its boost surging. I'll get it scanned asap.

Thats better :-) If you update your profile details it would help in the future too

Split hose somewhere or dirty throttle body seem to be common issues, but I tend to be less versed with the petrol models, as I drive an oil burner. :p

Had the codes read today;

17608/P1200/004608 - Boost pressure control valve (N249) mechanical failure

The garage removed the valve (which was actually an after market one) cleaned it(?), put it back on and cleared the codes. All seems fine now, no warning light on the dash and power is back where it usually is.

I'm assuming this is the reason for the lack of power and boost surging...

It this likely to keep failing now, and if so, should I just go back to stock or go after market again? Options?

Should I look at the N75 as well, is this part of the same unit? (Apologies for my distinct lack of technical understanding!)
