Fed up with doorstep sellers?

Featured Replies

So, earlier on tonight I was just going to pop outside and wash my T4. Just as I was going to the door I noticed someone behind the door and the bell rung. I opened it and was confronted by one of the "Would you like to sponsor a deaf panda in outer Mongolia for a mere £2 a week" or alike, I think it was for deaf children in all honesty though as he had a full on www.deaf something on but wasn't really paying attention! Literally the moment I was going to start to say "I'm not interested" he said "Is that a Fabia Monte Carlo?" and proceeded to lose all interested in the hard sell and wanted to talk about the Monte. He was a friendly chap and was absolutely chuffed to see one in the flesh, he said he had seen them online but never in reality. I took him round the car and started it up etc, I even let him sit in it (he should have been honoured!). After about 5 minutes he said "That's put a spanner in the works, I was going to put a deposit on an Alfa Mito but I'm not so sure now". He then said, "I suppose I should talk to you about the charity but think I'd better move on or I'll keep talking about the car", I said "No problem mate, good luck and pop to Skoda to have a test drive, you won't regret it!".

Moral of the story: If you can't be bothered to talk about sponsorship, buy yourself a Fabia Monte Carlo and talk to them about that instead!

Makes you wonder how much they earn on commission selling Charity then, if he was going to put a deposit on an Alfa Mito.

Yep, that's what I thought. Still, I'd rather talk about the new car instead of what ever he was trying to get sign ups for.

Not all of them get paid, in my spare time (when I get any) I collect at my local pets at home for WWF. Passive collecting mind you, just a WWF T-shirt and a bucket, none of this approaching people for money rubbish.

Edit: just remembered I had a similar experience with a sky salesman with my old Lupo GTI

Just tell them you are unemployed and can't afford it, then they just walk away.

With a brand new awesome looking Monte Carlo on the drive? :giggle:

Tell them you are now broke, due to having a nice shiny new car

I had a similar thing a couple of years ago, charity lady came to the drive and asked about sponsoring a child in some foreign place, Somalia or somewhere as dire, I said NO! Quite firmly, she then said and "you with a brand new car in the drive (superb2) ", yes and I've worked pretty hard to buy it! , and quickly retorted " now get of my bloody drive" ;)
